The Les Paul for the Gigging Guitarist

Gibson commemorates its 120 years of rich history with this 2014 edition of the Les Paul Studio electric guitar. This Les Paul has a nice set of features that will give you more than what you might already expect from such an influential model. With a maple-topped mahogany body, a glued-in maple slim taper neck, and the 490R and 490T coil-splitting humbuckers, you'll have endless opportunities to explore the comfort, playability, and tonal dynamic range this 2014 release has to offer.

See what else is great about the 2014 Les Paul Studio:

Weight-Relieved Mahogany Body and Slim Taper Maple Neck

If you like to move around on stage, your back won't have to suffer the weight that you would expect from Gibson's solid mahogany bodies. Designed with weight-relieved chambering, the 2014 Les Paul Studio is built with the guitarist's comfort in mind, and since the design was also crafted to aid your sound with enhanced resonance, you don't have to worry about losing that dark tone and sustain you get from a heaver model. Also, if the '50s necks on Les Paul models feel too thick for your comfort, the slim taper maple neck on this release is probably cut more to your liking with its width-to-thickness ratio for smoother handling. And with the 120th inlay at the 12th fret, you'll continuously be reminded that you're playing an instrument from a company with 120 years of trendsetting history.

Loaded Sound with Gibson's Popular 490R and 490T Humbuckers

The 2014 Les Paul Studio comes with a 490R neck and a 490T bridge pickup. Great for rock and metal, the popular PAF-sounding combination of these two pickups creates the perfect duo of dynamic and versatile sound. Whether you're looking for a beefy midrange rhythm tone or a raw screeching lead that cuts through with ease, these babies will be your best friends when you're looking for solid tonal range. And, with the coil-splitting volume knobs, you'll get even greater versatility. You'll also hear a steady consistency in volume as you split your coils, so you won't be left without enough decibels if you switch from one tone to another in the middle of a set.

Eye-Catching and Effective Hardware

The chrome tune-o-matic bridge and stopbar not only add an attractive shine to your Les Paul Studio, but they also assist with added sustain and intonation. Thicker guitar strings tend to have a shorter effective length -- the length that actually produces a sound -- compared to thinner strings, and the tune-o-matic bridge design allows for flexibility in string distance from nut to bridge to lengthen the string's vibration. What you get in the end is longer sustain and greater resonance. The design has been around since the mid '50s and has been an important part in Gibson's history, and the resulted sound continues through today with this model and Gibson's other 120th anniversary 2014 releases.

Features:

- Popular pairing of 490R and 490T humbuckers
- Glued-in maple slim taper neck
- Maple-topped weight-relieved mahogany body
- Chrome tune-o-matic bridge and stopbar
- Graph Tech nut
- 22 frets with Gibson's 120th anniversary inlay at 12th fret
- Larger strap buttons for greater strap security
- Dual tone and dual coil-splitting volume knobs
- Three-setting pickup selector switch
- Black Max Grip speed knobs
- Gibson gig bag included

Update your gear in style with Gibson's new 2014 Les Paul Studio. With dynamic coil-splitting 490R and 490T humbuckers, a light-weight resounding mahogany body, and a comfortable slim taper maple neck, you'll understand why the Les Paul Studio is such a popular guitar among many dedicated and serious guitar players.

Product Description

The Les Paul Studio has been a huge favorite of hard-working guitarists ever since its introduction in 1983. To celebrate the 120th Anniversary of the world's most respected guitar maker, Gibson USA unveils a stunning take on this "Paul for the people": while retaining the Studio line's status as an unbeatable value in a hand-made American electric guitar, the Les Paul Studio 2014 adds innovative and upgraded features to make this the most impressive version yet at this price.

Two of Gibson's most popular humbucking pickups from the Modern Classics range, a 490R at the neck and 490T at the bridge, link the Studio 2014 with legendary Les Paul tone, while coil taps and Orange Drop tone caps expand the guitar's versatility exponentially. Further 2014 120th Anniversary additions include larger no-slip strap buttons, black Max Grip Speed Knobs, a GraphTech nut, long-life proprietary coated guitar strings, cryogenic treated fret wire for longer life and corrosion resistance, a full PLEK setup, and a 120th Anniversary logo inlay at the 12th fret.

Body and neck

The Les Paul Studio 2014 is crafted in the image of the original Les Paul Standard. It's made from a solid mahogany back with modern weight relief for enhanced resonance and a lighter strapped-on feel, with a carved Grade-A figured maple top. Its glued-in maple neck features a slim '60s profile, a rosewood fingerboard with 22 cryogenic treated frets for long life, traditional trapezoid inlays, and a commemorative 120th Anniversary inlay at the 12th fret.

Pickups and electronics

The guitar carries a pair of Gibson's popular 490R and 490T humbucking pickups in the neck and bridge positions. These pickups are crafted in the image of the original PAFs with genuine Alnico magnets, but updated for the requirements of contemporary music. They are wired through the traditional complement of independent volume and tone controls and a three-way selector switch, but updated with coil-split switching and Orange Drop tone capacitors.

Hardware

Vintage-style tuners join a chrome Tune-o-matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece for outstanding resonance and sustain, while enlarged strap buttons keep your guitar secure throughout the set. Dark-cream pickguard and pickup rings are contrasted by black Max Grip speed knobs for optimum on-the-fly control manipulation.

Case and coverage

The LP Studio comes protected in a Gibson gig bag, includes a truss-rod wrench and owner's manual, and is backed by a Limited Lifetime Warranty and Gibson's 24/7/365 Customer Service.

zZounds has verified that this customer bought this product from us. "2014 gibson les paul studio "
Overall: Let me first say that I am very happy with my purchase . The guitar feels and plays amazingly and sounds like a snarling beast (in a good way). At first glance the fit and finish is beautiful , however upon closer inspection I noticed that the nut that holds the scratchplate to its bracket actually digs into the maple top a little bit and that bugs me a little. And when I went to change the strap buttons for Dunlop straploks , hidden under the bottom button was a gaping hole that appears to be intentional but I have you to figure out why or what for. Other than those issues and vague generalization of the owner manual that tells you the guitar comes equipped with 10 gauge strings when clearly it comes with 9s , it's a great guitar and would totally recommend it to friends. Ps the online pictures don't begin to do these instruments justice, they look so much more beautiful in person

zZounds has verified that this customer bought this product from us. "Great guitar!"
Overall: REVIEW: I got the guitar out of the box expecting it to need a set up especially afeter reading some of the Gibson QC horror stories, but to my surprise the guitar was in tune with not fret buzz or any issues and the action was nice and low. Great fret work with no issues. The QC on this LP really renewed my faith in buying new Gibsons. SOUND: Loving the 490t/r pickups. Normally i play metal and I was a little worried since i've never used an alnico ii pup but the bridge pickup is nice and clear with and without distortion perfect for leads and the neck pickup has a sweet creamy tone to it that i love that when using the coil tap give this nice vintage Cream like tone but still has enough dirt to really rock out when in full humbucker mode. Compared to my V its brighter due to the maple cap/neck, however the V is more agressive but that's due to the pickups in it. Finally Sustain wise it's almost Spinal tap-esque beating out my ec-1000 and my V. AMP used was an Egnater Rebel 20 head/cab with a TS808 and Bad Horsey wah. FEEL: Biggest difference is the maple neck. I've always been a user of mahogany necks but always wanted a maple neck les paul like on the ZW LP. Compared to my V's neck the LP feels more solid and the neck is slightly thicker, but IMO the maple neck goes great on a LP it's more durable and brightens up the tone. Haven't weighed it properly but it weighs more than my ec-1000 and is heavier than my V. OVERALL: The pictures from my crappy iphone dont do it justice it looks a lot nicer in person than online. Some people have complained about the 12th fret inlay but i actually kind of like it. This guitar is greatfor the $ and for those looking for a solid LP i recommend them especially when they hit the used market.
