The Gibson Les Paul Standard Birdseye is one of Gibson's most lavishly beautiful electric guitars, delivering a more punchy tonal character than most other Les Pauls. It's distinguished by its AAA birdseye maple top, hand-sprayed with a glossy nitrocellulose lacquer -- creating one of the most gorgeous tops you'll ever see on a Gibson guitar!

Solid Features Throughout

The Gibson Les Paul Standard adapts many of the innovations that Gibson pioneered over the years. The result is a lighter, faster instrument with more tonal power. The mahogany neck is carved in an asymmetrical '60s SlimTaper profile with a compound-radius design. This means that notes sustain better at every point in the bound rosewood fingerboard than would with a traditional neck profile. The locking TonePros Tune-o-Matic bridge and Stopbar tailpiece ensure solid sustain and precise intonation on each string, while a set of high-quality locking Grover kidney-button tuners locks them squarely into place.

BurstBucker Pros: Precious Pickups, Revisited

The Gibson Les Paul Standard Birdseye gets its characteristic tone from a pair of BurstBucker Pro pickups. You'll find a BurstBucker Pro #1 in the neck position and a BurstBucker Pro #2 in the bridge.

The BurstBucker Pro was introduced by Gibson to bring more power to the vintage sound of Gibson's popular BurstBucker, with the addition of an Alnico 5 magnet and wax potting. The original BurstBuckers, released in 2000, captured the subtly varied tones of read more historically accurate "unmatched" bobbin windings and an Alnico 2 magnet. In 2002, Gibson responded to the overwhelming popularity of these new pickups with the Alnico 5 BurstBucker Pro. When you plug it in and play, you'll notice how the tone has more bite and character than the super-smooth Gibson '57 Classics. The wax potting on the BurstBuckers Pro also distinguishes it from its predecessor's design, ensuring no squeal from the pickups, even at high output levels.

Push/Pull Coil-Splitting and More

The tonal versatility of this Les Paul goes even further with Push/Pull Tone knobs on each pickup, allowing you to independently split the coils and obtain single-coil tones from your humbuckers! You can Pull the neck pickup's tone control for reverse-phase tones, or Pull the bridge pickup's tone knob to tap Gibson's new Pure Bypass setting. The latter allows that pickup to route directly to the output for a hotter signal.

Let me start by saying that im an acoustic fingerpicking player and this was my first electric guitar. Its amazing, the tone is unbeatable. All the solid bodies ive played couldnt project sound more than a few inches, not the case with this guitar. I was shocked at just how resonant it was unplugged. You can hear it from across a room without having it plugged in. This may sound strange but i cant get over how good this guitar smells, its like a cross between marshmallows and vanilla bean.its not the easiest guitar to bend notes with, and im an acoustic player so my fingers are pretty strong, its actually close to how hard it would be on an acoustic. The finish is beautiful, almoat too beautiful, it makes me feel like im handling a porcelain doll or something although im certain its sturdy, the beauty of it makes me baby it. So for an everyday guitar or gig guitar i wouldnt recommend it. I need to get another guitar at this point so that i actually play it more. Thats probably just me though. Pros: unbeatable tone, beautiful finish, great smell Cons: heavier than expected and hard to bend notes
