Fender J Mascis Jazzmaster Electric Guitar

Stunning Purple Sparkle polyester finish. Mascis mods: Adjusto-matic bridge, reinforced tremolo arm housing, gold anodized pickguard and satin finished neck.

To honor the sonic legacy of alt/indie rock founding father J Mascis, Fender has unveiled the sparkling-new J Mascis Jazzmaster guitar.

Mascis took the instrument to a new place with his feedback-drenched, distortion-laden band, Dinosaur Jr. This new signature model pays affectionately ear-splitting homage to Mascis, giving the instrument a modern makeover for fans who've been clamoring for such a model for years.

With its stunning and unusual Purple Sparkle polyester finish, matching headcap and gold anodized pickguard, the guitar features mods requested by Mascis himself-including an Adjusto-Matic bridge, reinforced tremolo arm housing and a satin-finished neck. The Dinosaur roar comes from dual vintage reissue pickups and the barrage of controls the Jazzmaster has always been known for-a three-position toggle switch with volume and tone knobs and, for this model, a two-position slide switch with volume and tone controls configured as a "lead tone circuit" (up) and a "rhythm tone circuit" (down).

The J Mascis Jazzmaster is literally a sparkling new addition to the Fender lineup, in celebration of the adventurous and continuing sonic contributions of the man who has been the model's constant champion for nearly 25 years now.

Always looking for new equipment, that is how the miracles come. I do like this one quite a bit and suspect that it will be a solid addition to a great guitar collection.

Sound
This can be a blaringly sharp instrument. I find it a chore to tame, as it was the duty of the outboard equipment to take the searing bite out of this gorgeous monsters sound. I have a great collection of various guitars, and this one is the brightest and shiniest yet. i have not used it out live, but it cuts through tracks like J. bust on over and refused to leave. Like any fender it has pockets of exquisite tone, for me between both the 4-8th fret and the 10-16th fret. Each setting produces an extreme difference in tone, but i found many of them unusable, as i have no interest in shearing off the first three layers of my or any-one else's face.

Features
No accessories, but the guitar is enough. Seriously no nothing other than a wammy bar rubber-banded to the neck and three consentricaly smaller boxes. I would like to know what it costs Fender to produce this guitar. I would most certainly buy it again, in fact i would now like to find a vintage version somewhere.

Ease of Use
I really love the neck on this guitar. It is the difference between a glossy and matt photo. Not being so glossy makes the neck quicker than spit and twice as easy to slide. I have read the opposite from other reviewers on these necks, read more but i found it super fast. The controls should not work against anyone's self assessment of their intelligentsia, they are quite easy to figure out.

Quality
This machine showed up in absolute pristine condition. It was set up fabulously from the warehouse almost in tune in fact. There are some obvious points where Fender saved a bit of money, like knobs and whammy, but modification is the Fender's Head.

Value
A little expensive at 900$. At least a gig bag would be helpful.
