With the Pawn Shop series of guitars, Fender has introduced the world to unusual instruments that historically never existed -- but should have. Take, for example, the Fender Pawn Shop Jaguarillo electric guitar. It's like a traditional Fender Jaguar, but hot-rodded with the versatility to play modern styles. The Jaguarillo is vintage in the ways you want it to be -- like a short-scale neck and vintage-style floating tremolo tailpiece -- but with modern electronics so it's easier to handle than an untamed vintage Jaguar. It's the perfect instrument for unconventional artists with a taste for unique instruments.

The Jaguar, Reinvented

The Jaguarillo adds a warm richness to virtually any style of music thanks to an unorthodox humbucker/single-coil/single-coil pickup configuration. Unlike traditional Jaguars, which feature two single-coil Jaguar pickups, the combination of a humbucker with two single-coil Stratocaster pickups places the Jaguarillo's tone somewhere between a Strat and a Jag. The controls have been simplified too, with single volume and tone controls and a 5-way pickup selector switch, so it will be easier than ever to dial-in the tone you're looking for. And with the addition of an angled humbucker in the bridge, the Jaguarillo packs more cojones than either a Strat or a Jag, giving you an instrument that sounds better over a wider range of musical styles.

Fender Pawn Shop Jaguarillo Guitar

The Fender Pawn Shop Jaguarillo guitar hot-rods traditional Jaguar design through the roof with a scorching HSS configuration in which all three pickups - two standard Stratocaster single-coils and an Atomic humbucking bridge pickup - are angled for enhanced bass and treble response. Other unusual touches include a streamlined control layout (volume knob, tone knob and five-way blade pickup switch) and an Adjusto-Matic bridge with vintage-style floating tremolo tailpiece. This is no ordinary Jaguar.

Pawn Shop Series guitars are inspired by the more eccentric Fender creations of the mid-60s to mid-70s, which sometimes found their way to the outside world and into the more esoteric pages of Fender history. Crafted for thoroughly modern sound and quality, they present a creative alchemy of diverse Fender elements. The Pawn Shop Series introduces an unconventional assortment of guitars that never were but should have been.

This is an interesting design, with two Strat pickup in the neck and middle position and a humbucker at the bridge. It is basically a Jaguar with some Strat features tacked on. Using the neck and middle pickups, you'll get some very Strat-y sounds, but you also have some other sounds that are unique to this guitar. It has the Jaguar tremolo system, which I happen to prefer, but that's a very personal choice. I know some people have trouble with the Adjust-o-matic bridge and string breakage, but (knock on wood) I haven't had any issues yet. It does seem to impart a certain chiminess across the strings. I'd definitely recommend a noise gate. I may eventually replace this with a Mastery Bridge at some point. Although some versions of this guitar come with a neck that only says "Fender" on the head, mine says "Fender Jaguar." The fretboard is rosewood and plays fine. I do have some intonation issue higher on the fretboard, but I've seen that on other Fenders as well and it's easy enough to control. I have to admit that when I first got it, I wasn't too happy with the sounds I was getting, but I think that was because I was thinking too much with Strats and Jaguars in mind instead taking this guitar on its own. Once settled in with it I was able to make it sounds like all kinds of instruments. This seems like a good choice for anyone who is looking for something that sounds a little different from anything else out there, and is capable of a wide variety of sounds. Maybe it's a read more function of my age, but I love the Fender offsets. I just think they are the coolest-looking guitars. One thing worth mentioning: Although I ordered the Sonic Blue, I received the Candy Apple Red. This was a mistake at the Fender plant (the box said Sonic Blue). Zzounds was very gracious and gave me a choice of returning it or taking a discount (I chose the latter). With this in mind, I'd say the one thing that might be an issue is the quality control. I mean, if the folks at the Mexican Fender plant aren't even bothering to pay attention to which box they stuff the guitars into, you have to wonder what else they neglected to pay attention to. in spite of this, I do actually love this guitar.

Musical Background:
I've been playing keyboards for fifty years and guitar for forty. I also play mandolin, dobro, harmonica and several others.

Musical Style:
Alt country, blues, rock, surf music, and anything twangy.
