Event TR8 Studio Monitors Customer Review

Feature:
TUNED REFERENCE: No switches to tweak for acoustics. I set these up in my home studio and they sounded as good as they did at the store.

Quality:
Quality at an excellent price. I had an Event Tria system before these, I never had to replace a driver, don't expect I'll need to with these.

Value:
Go listen to them.

Desirability:
Not as "cool" or "techno" looking as some other near-field monitors out there, but damn if they don't sound incredible, especialy for the price. Maybe they should get a 10 for the fact that they aren't distractingly attractive next to my computer screen.

Sound:
I A/B'ed the Event TR8's and M-Audio BX8's with an LTJ Bukem Drum and Bass CD, and a 60's Love Jam CD. I had a fresh pair of Sony 7506 headphones to use as my control group since I'm very familiar with them. I switched back and forth quite a bit, listening to the music in the headphones, then on one pair of monitors, then I did the same thing with the other pair. I then switched between the monitors themselves. The TR8's came etremely close to the 7506's - even in a room with no sound dampening, I still heard and felt the same thing the headphones were telling me when I listened to the Event's. The BX8's however seemed to have poor stereo imaging, and a few problems across many of the frequency ranges - I even played with the spatial switches they feature on the back - no dice. The BX8's might be more like the Yamaha NS10's in that they will produce a disco smile in your mixes because you'll sweeten up the EQ'ing in your mixes to hear the detail you want... I would rather take a transparent monitor and let my ear discern this, as I plan to mix many styles and moods of music.

Support:
Owning an affordable, high quality product that I've never had problems with or needed support for is enough support for me.

Overall:
For the price and the quality of their function, I don't see another candidate that can beat these monitors. I might add a subwoofer.

"A good buy & mixes translate better than something that will cost you twice the price!"

Feature:
no external eqs or other junk to deal with (other than gain) which I keep at 0 as they are coming streight from a m-audio delta1010 interface. what you hear is what you get.

Quality:
the independantly tuned tweater/sub amping makes for a flat response. It isn't widly known, but I contacted event electronics to find out what exactly the differance is between the newer tr-8's and the more expensive ps-8. turns out that the drivers are Identical and that cheaper cabinet construction and manufacturing location allow them to sell for considerably less. the only aural differance is about 3db less overhead than the ps8. However, the "newness" factor of the tr8 sometimes makes them even more expensive then the ps8 i'm told, so shop around and we'll have to wait for that to wear off to find its true value.

Value:
definatly shop around. online tends to be cheaper than guitar cener for instance. Unless you get pleasure from peeling the wrapper off a brand new pair to get that factory-fresh smell, getting you're hands on a good used/ slightly used pair will save you tons. (its not like they're gonna deterierate too much from normal use.)

Desirability:
sleak black on black cabinetry looks very professional.

Sound:
I got some used and have done lots of experamenting with mixes of differant styles and moods. excelent flat response. Highs are crystal clear and the bass isn't overwhelming at all. the biamped system stereo imaging is perfectly flawless and symetrical.

Support:
haven't needed any yet

Overall:
Don't plan on replacing these anytime soon. they are all around great all-purpose nearfield monitors.
