Overview
For the past 7 years, the 20/20bas has put true world-class reference monitoring into the hands of musicians previously shut out by the high cost of those systems. As the favorites of the music press, project studios, and recording professional worldwide (such as recording engineer extraordinaire Francis Buckley, who took the very first pair of 20/20bas and won a Grammy for the project he mixed on them), the 20/20bas have set the standard for excellence in biamplified direct field monitor systems. And now the legacy continues with the 20/20bas V2.
What is it that makes the 20/20bas V2 so special? To be frank, a whole lot of things. First, it uses the time-tested low and high frequency driver elements found in the original 20/20: a 1 in. silk dome high frequency driver specially designed to be superbly accurate yet non-fatiguing to your ears -- even after an all-night session -- and an 8 in. mineral-impregnated polypropylene cone low frequency driver that delivers fat, punchy, un-hyped bass. Also from the original: the active asymmetrical 4th-order crossover -- 1 with phase response so accurate that the resulting stereo imaging simply must be heard (make that seen) to be believed.
Event then took those components and paired them with 2 custom low noise amplifiers (130W LF driver / 70W HF driver). And they powered the amplifiers with a toroidal transformer to give the system lower mechanical and electrical noise characteristics. The basic amplifier designs are descended from… read more the amplifiers newly-created for the flagship Studio Precision line, with modifications made to customize the amplifiers' performance specifically for the 20/20bas V2 transducers. Why 2 amplifiers, you ask? Because giving each transducer its own amplifier gives the system increased dynamic range. Higher SPL. Greater transient response. Improved damping. Smoother phase response. Lower intermodulation distortion. In short, great sound.
Topping off the design are the independent low and high frequency trim controls, making it easy to adjust the speakers' response to your particular monitoring environment. You also get balanced XLR and 1/4 in. inputs, continuously variable input gain control, full protection circuitry, and much more.
Simply put, the 20/20bas V2 delivers exactly what you want in a reference monitor system: Superbly clear, detailed, sound. Flat, uncolored, accurate frequency response. Precise imaging. Non-fatiguing to the ears. And fun to listen to. That's right, fun. When was the last time you sat down and really enjoyed listening to a reference monitor? Manufacturer Support
I finally gave up on trying to contact them! I have been using 2 of the original 20/20bas monitors for a little more than three years along with the Event subwoofer. No problem with the monitors; however, the amp on the sub blew up. After trying to get them to return calls, or answer emails, for a month, I gave up and bought a new sub. (Yes, I know, but the sound is that good.)
