Pure Annihilation! Epiphone has a long history of supplying some of the greatest guitarists of all time with the instrument they need to excel. And that history continues with the Annihilation V made in cooperation with legendary guitarist, Jeff Waters. Prestigiously ranked at #3 in Joel Mclver's 2009 book The 100 Greatest Metal Guitarists, Jeff and his band Annihilator have been shredding audiences worldwide for years and now he's ready to take it up a notch with what he calls The Ultimate Metal Guitar!
Tone to the Bone! - Great pickups are the heart of any great guitar! Designed specifically for Jeff by Epiphone engineers and made by Gibson U.S.A.'s world-famous pickup division, the Annihilation-V features custom JWT (Jeff Waters Treble) and JWR (Jeff Waters Rhythm) 4-wire humbuckers in the bridge and neck positions respectively. Overwound and featuring a Ceramic-8 magnet, the JWT bridge humbucker can deliver the right combination of crunch and growl without ever losing it's enhanced lows and crystal clear highs.
The JWR neck pickup features an Alnico-II magnet that provides vintage tone with great sustain and clarity along with the right combination of power and warmth. Together, the two pickps offer the perfect combination of crunch and clean.
Electronics Controlling the two perfectly matched humbuckers is a set of simple yet powerful controls that offer incredible versatility. The master volume control is also a push/pull control allowing you to tap into each coil of the two humbuckers for a brighter, single-coil sound while keeping them noise-free. The 3-way toggle in combination with the coil-tapping allows you up to 6 different tonal combinations ranging from a one single-coil to full-on humbucker assault. Add to that, an easy to use momentary killbutton that cuts off the output for added effects and you've got a guitar that's ready for anything. Loaded with premium add-ons!
Other upgrades include Grover 14:1 ratio tuners, Epiphone StrapLocks, Epiphone LockTone tune-o-matic/stopbar combination, Annihilator Devil inlay on the 12th fret and Jeff's signature on the back of the headstock. And, like every Epiphone, it features their Limited Lifetime warranty backed by world famous 24/7/365 day Gibson Customer Service.

"I hope Jeff Waters is happy!"
Sound:
Well the neck pickup sucks, it's noisy and there is really no point of selling it with this guitar. The Bridge pickup however is pretty decent. I think this guitar was basically designed around the bridge pickup anyhow. It's a hot pickup to the point where you can still strum and hear the notes clearly. This pickup isn't as hot as I usually like them to be but am going to keep it in place for the time being. I have played this guitar through 2 different types of digital amps and 2 types of tube amps. It definitely has it's sweet spots with each.
Feature:
This guitar has many features including a push/pull for single coil sound, which again is only worth using on the bridge pickup. There is also a kill button which I always wanted just for fun and it is that, but noisy. It's kind of a cheap button, but does the job. This guitar also came with Epiphone strap locks which broke within 5 minutes of installing. I replaced with a Dunlop Straplok set.
Ease of Use:
I was scared of the neck, because Epiphone's are notorious for having over sized necks and this one is perfect. It has a good 'D' shape to it and even my friend who has smaller hands than I was happy with it as well. He also owns an Epiphone which he hates due to the neck, so that should say something.
Quality:
It's a nice guitar, a little over priced if you ask me. I think it's worth every penny of $500 but $700 is a little much. I got the black version which is cool because the inlays are reflective chrome/mirror style and the neck is an interesting material. I have an issue with the devil inlay on the neck which is you can see glue spots. It takes away from the look, but I am anal I guess. The paint is a flat black and the guitar is really light. It's a little off balance but if you play 'V' style guitars you know what I mean.
Value:
It's not worth the money but if you spend $300 it would be kick ass. I plan on replacing the Grover tuners with Sperzel's and the pickups eventually.
The Wow Factor:
It's a cool looking guitar and comfortable to play.
Overall:
I like this guitar a lot, even if you don't get that from reading the rest of my review. I am being honest and no guitar is perfect unless you pay an arm and a leg for it. So when you purchase a less expensive guitar you have to figure in some things you wish were better.
