Same as the EMG 89 but with reversed coils, this humbucker pickup features Alnico V magnets and has separate preamps each providing custom outputs.

This pickup is the same as the 89 but the coils are reversed so that the single coil side is nearer the neck to capture that sweet spot. Featuring two pickups in one, the 89R is loaded with Alnico V magnets and has separate preamps each providing custom outputs for both dual coil and single coil modes. In dual coil mode, the sound is rich, warm and powerful, but still very clear and is similar to the 85. The single coil mode, accessed via the included push pull pot, delivers the traditional Strat single coil sound: bright, airy, and chimey, and is similar to the SA. In either mode, the clean sound is gorgeously pristine and has a lot of presence. Used equally in bridge and neck positions, whether you are playing Hard Rock or Smooth Jazz, you can get it all with this beautifully balanced and versatile pickup.

Hello all! First off, I detest soldering AND I happen to love the sound of EMG pups, so being able to install these simple plug and play EMG pickups myself is a dream come true. I had an EMG 85 in the neck of my telecaster custom and I love the 85 but I wanted the option to go single coil as well. I was able to swap the pups out (both are solderless models) In about an hour total and be right back up and playin again in no time. If I can do it, then it's fool proof. As for the performance of the 89R, it sounds great in both single coil and humbucker mode. I was really curious how it would perform as a single coil, but I was blown away how terrific and legit stratish it made my guitar sound. Really beautiful tone!!! Even more impressive about this experience was the customer service at zzsounds. I originally bought an 89r refurb from them, when I got it some of the pots were missing, the zzounds guys jumped in, replaced the refurb with a brand new unit after issuing a ups return ticket at their own expense. Also, they didn't wait to receive the refurb, as soon as their system showed that Id given the refurb 89R to ups to be shipped back, they immediately sent out the brand new 89R. Can't speak highly enough about the spectacular customer service these guys provided, EASILY the best I've ever experienced in online music gear sales!!
