Was shopping at my usual place, zZounds, for a second guitar. I was looking for one w/o a FR trem, & w/ an ebony fret board (I already have an ESP w/ a FR Special, which has a maple fret board) to be used specifically for drop tuning. I stumbled onto the site late one night, & ran across this amazing axe. Got it on sale/clearance, for a steal of a price, and could not pass it up. Am I glad I didn't. Straight out of the box, it was rock solid, & ready to go. Although I did put heavier strings on it(11-48) & re-adjusted things. Put in a new battery, & the rock gods rejoiced. With the EMG pups, ebony board, & great balanced light weight, this is a heavy metal drop tuners dream. Surprising to me, it is quite a bit lighter than my ESP, granted the ESP has a FR on it, but I expected this one to be a tad heavier, or at least the same, but it is actually, quite a bit lighter. The weight balance is absolutely perfect. Deep black finish, perfect. Grover tuners, perfect. There is literally not a single flaw I have yet to find in this guitar. Once I got things setup, hooked up to my Peavey amp, I tried a few drop tunings, some older Pantera, Megadeth, some Velvet Revolver, among others, & this thing has great bite, growl, just plain great hard sound, & great playability. Clean things up, & it can play those clean solo's just as good. Absolutely love this thing though for playing my crunchy, distorted hard rock/metal. Words can't express how happy I am with this guitar, & how glad I am I read more pulled the trigger. For the money, you will not find, a better guitar, from the mahogany body & neck, the ebony fret board, Graph Tech TUSQ nut, custom pearl inlays, Grover Tuners, white & black bindings, from headstock down to the arched string through body, you will not find a sexier guitar, for this price, or with such a great bite for drop tuning magic. It is a flat out steal. A dream to play. Thanks to Brad over at Dean Guitars also, for sending me a welcome package to the Dean guitar family. Much appreciated! Love the guitar!
