Danelectro DJ-5 Tuna Melt Tremolo Pedal

No longer available at zZounds
Emulate your favorite 50s artists with this vintage tremelo pedal. It's designed to realistically simulate the trem of a 1950s tube amp.

Sounds so real you can feel the heat from your 1956 tube amp. Hard/Soft switch perfectly simulate tremolos from different 50's era amps. Tasty!

When it comes to packing power into a tiny package, Danelectro has really broken the price barrier with their line of durable, miniature effects pedals. With list prices ranging from $29 to $49 it is hard to ignore these tasty little guys. And they are so cute too!

Runs on a single 9 volt battery or optional AC adapter.

This Tuna Melt pedal helps to make a signature sound a little easier to come by for a low price. It's part of a set that work together well.

Sound
Played with a slightly overdriven telecaster, I immediately thought of CCR when I first heard this pedal, like Midnight Special or Born on the Bayou. Warm and swampy right out of the box. Reacts well to my 4 position set up. Swampy (in the most desirable sense) with the neck pickup and heavenly glistening on the bridge pickup.

Features
Danelectro provides their own 9V battery. Looks great works great. Interestingly, the product photo shows 3 knobs but the unit I received has a little toggle switch in the middle instead of a third knob (switches between smooth and hard tremelo waves). I prefer the toggle switch.

Ease of Use
It's impossible to NOT get your desired effect within 5 seconds. Speed knob, depth knob and a little toggle switch (not another knob in the middle like the photo but a toggle switch)that switches easily between smooth waves and hard waves. Way easy to use.

Quality
Heavy plastic yellow case with a metal bottom plate. I don't think this will break if I dropped it. I've been using the Danelectro Bacon 'n' Eggs for a few months now and it stands up to daily play very well. This Tuna Melt unit is constructed the same way. I would vote 10 on this unit if the knobs weren't plastic and cheap feeling, read more though chrome-covered.

Value
I'm amazed at the sound quality of these Danelectro pedals for the price and this Tuna Melt is no different - I feel like I made a very wise choice in terms of what you're getting for the money. An excellent value. Solid build and great sound.

Manufacturer Support
The first Danelectro pedal I bought I sent back because of a flaw and I received another unit back the next day. But it was Zzounds customer service not Danelectro's. Nevertheless, I haven't had any trouble with the replacement Bacon 'n' Eggs or this Tuna Melt unit.

The Wow Factor
This is the yellow pedal in Danelectro's colorful set. Cool or campy depending on your point of view. I like Batman, Elvis, cheeseburgers and these Danelectro pedals.
