Magnificent Desolation. The Charvel Desolation series offers more tonal and stylistic options for discerning players everywhere. Devastating tone, killer looks and high-performance playability separate the Desolation series from all others.

The Desolation DS-2 ST has a single-cutaway mahogany body with a carved top and a bound mahogany set neck with scalloped heel. Features include a compound radius (12-16 inches) rosewood fingerboard with 24 jumbo frets and pearloid inlays, pearloid body and headstock binding, dual Charvel active humbucking pickups with three-way toggle switching, Charvel bridge specially designed for compound-radius fingerboards, black nickel hardware, three-on-a-side locking Charvel tuners, and solid and trans finishes (flame maple veneer on trans finishes).

I am shocked that $299.99 has this much to it. First off, know that the Charvel name has a lot of history, being in the 80's Charvel/Jackson were some of the best guitars you could buy. Now it seems they are starting from scratch to get people aboard, and I have to say, they've made me a fan. I received the Flat Black DC-2 a few days ago and I'm floored. The body is very compact and comfortable for a small guy like myself. The NECK! Easily one of the most comfortable fastest neck I've ever played. The stock active pickups might be the best stock pickups I've heard in a long time and will more than make due until I upgrade to EMG's or Blackouts (they are just as high gain but have a very good even tone to them). The locking tuners are solid, the neck thru design is awesome and the guitar (especially for being a China made guitar) is without any cosmetic flaws. Every note plays and rings just fine. The Matte Black paint job is just as smooth as I like it as well, and the archtop body sounds and feels great. I really can't say enough about what Charvel has put into this guitar. I've been playing 20+ years and owned ESP's, Ibanez, etc and this might be the best guitar under $800 I've ever played. Get one while they're low in cost because Charvel is about to get a LOT of good press with these models and I can see the price getting jacked up soon. The single best $300 guitar you will ever buy. PERIOD.
