The Breedlove Solo acoustic-electric bass is a great companion for an intimate singer-songwriter performance. Each note harnesses warmth and depth that'll keep the show grounded with addicting bass tone to spare. A cedar-topped body with mahogany back and sides gives you loads of mids and low-end emphasis, and a nato and mahogany neck delivers seamless transfer of sound as your fingers travel 23 jumbo frets with tight action. The LR-TCV preamp and LR Baggs Element pickup system keeps your performance clean and eager to hit the PA or your bass amp and fill the room. And whether you're playing acoustic or electric, Breedlove's "Monitor" side soundhole will help you hear your performance from above.

Cedar and Mahogany for Full-Bodied Sound

Cedar is less common than other top woods for acoustic-electric instruments, so the Breedlove Solo's output is going to have an interesting and somewhat singular sonic color to it. As a tonewood, cedar tends to push the lower frequencies, when compared to a wood like spruce. The mahogany back and sides on this acoustic-electric bass will get you some serious middle and low-end boost -- an awesome choice for bass instruments.

Hear Yourself Better with Breedlove's "Monitor" Side Soundhole

There's a second soundhole on the Solo bass -- one on the side of the instrument that's designed to send its acoustic sound directly to your ears. Use the side soundhole to hear more of the acoustic sound of the instrument, or pop in the soundhole plug if read more you prefer to go without.

Nato and Mahogany Neck

Play your Breedlove Solo's mahogany and nato neck once, and your fingers will love you forever. Aside from pushing the middle and lower frequencies, mahogany brings a extra helping of sustain to the mix. The volute design on the Solo's neck brings strength and stability to the break angle of the headstock, and it can also be utilized as a thumb rest for notes played near the nut.

LR-TCV Preamp and LR Baggs Element Pickup System

This Breedlove's LR Baggs Element pickup system and LR-TCV preamp will serve your ears well. Whether you're an aggressive picker, or if you like to keep things subtle and soft, the velocity and pressure of your fingers or picking technique will come through when you fire this acoustic-electric bass through the PA or your bass amplifier. An onboard backlit LED tuner helps you keep your intonation in check even in dark situations where it might be hard to see.

Breedlove Bridge Truss Design

Luthiers often struggle with keeping tension and stress from weighing down an instrument's bridge. Overbuilding the top to reduce stress can have negative effects on sustain, so Breedlove designed a reliable and stable bridge truss system to relieve stress without needing a thick top wood, resulting in a natural resonance and sustain. This system has a great feel and sound that responds well to the dynamics of your playing style.

The Breedlove Assessment: Quality Control for Your New Instrument

Before each product is shipped out, Breedlove instruments undergo a multi-point inspection process. Steps in the process include attention to aesthetics to make sure you look as good as you sound during your performance, a play test to assure a confident performance every note of the way, and a final buffing and polishing phase to address any final touches that might need attention. Though this bass is great for intimate performances, it works wonderfully well for ensembles, recording sessions, and even just some solo jamming in your bedroom.

Breedlove Solo Acoustic-Electric Bass

The Breedlove Solo Acoustic-Electric Bass: For the singer-songwriter recording artist, designed to give a perspective on sound, projecting sonic subtleties directly to the player's ears. The side sound hole makes the Breedlove Solo Bass far more audible to the player without sacrificing any forward sound projection. Great for playing in an ensemble, solo work and practice, the sound hole and the solid Sitka spruce top let you feel and hear detailed and warm bass timbres, while the proprietary Breedlove Bridge Truss delivers exceptional sustain and clarity by relieving stress on the instrument's top.

Body Shape

The Breedlove Jumbo is our largest body shape by volume. Playing the Jumbo is a powerful experience: Sound feels as though it is propelled by the movement of so much air inside the body. It's the perfect shape for conveying big, beautiful tone across all four strings.

Top

Sitka spruce is grown in the northwest, and has been the primary top wood for U.S.A. instruments for many decades. It is strong, light, and gives extended harmonic content and nearly equals the power of Adirondack.

Back and Sides

Sapele is similar both visually and tonally to dense mahogany, but both darker and harder, giving it a strong visual presence and a bit more upper harmonic content and low-end clarity. It's a good choice for many sizes and shapes, and works well for strumming and fingerstyle.

Hand-Crafted Neck

A satin-finished nato mahogany neck with volute makes the neck comfortable and easy to play. The volute adds strength to the break angle of the headstock. It also acts as a thumb rest for notes played in open and first positions.

Breedlove Bridge Truss

For centuries, one of the most difficult components of crafting guitars has been relieving the stress on the bridge without overbuilding the top and dampening sound. Originally invented over 20 years ago, the Breedlove Bridge Truss is still one of the most innovative truss systems on the market today. Refined and improved over the years, the Breedlove Bridge Truss relieves stress on the top, allowing use of a thinner top, providing for greater sustain and balance, more expression from the instrument, and greater structural integrity - all while adding longevity to the instrument.

Electronics

The LR Baggs Element pickup and the Breedlove LR-TCV preamp give you great plugged-in sound. The back-lit, colored LED tuner also allows you to see if you're in tune on a dark stage. This set-up lets you play with confidence, so you can focus on your performance.

Aesthetic Appointments

High-gloss finish, Black binding and offset position markers give this guitar an understated elegance.

Set-Up and Quality Assurance in Bend, Oregon USA

Our comprehensive quality control process provides the player with an instrument that will play great right out of the box.

Prior to shipment, every Breedlove instrument undergoes a rigorous multi-point inspection in Bend, Oregon by our expert U.S. Quality Control Team. We start with a visual inspection: checking aesthetic and structural elements of the body, and all components, for flaws. Next, each guitar is tuned and undergoes a play test, where our craftspeople check nut height, relief, action, and string height. Based on the results of the play test, we then adjust for maximum playability. Next, each instrument is buffed and polished by hand with painstaking attention to detail. Once the instrument has passed inspection, a signed QC sticker is placed, and the instrument is carefully packed and shipped.

Receive mine yesterday from zZ..fantastic bass, beautiful finish, with the flat wound zing sound. This my first acoustic after playing double bass and several electric guitars..Fender, Gibson, etc. I no longer play professionally now but this will do just fine for anything. Case is foam filled...worth the cost.
