The Autocom Pro-XL MDX1600 is loaded with many of the same features as the Composer Pro-XL. Additionally it features a unique adjustable IDE dynamic enhancer that provides subtle and very musical compensation for the bass "boost" effect that results from heavy compression.

"Good"

Sound: It's really good for the price. It can be used in many applications. I've tried using it by sending my recording channel to it which is handy for removing room noise and controlling the dynamics while recording a wide variety of different sound sources. The stereo couple function comes in handy for stereo recording. It can handle high volumes considerably well, however it does tend to start pumping with lower frequencies at a point. The average joe wouldn't hear the difference between this unit and slightly more expensive units. Feature: It has all of the basic features you would expect in a standard stereo compressor. It has a ASDR section, a peak limiter, a dynamic enhancer, and an expander/gate. Ease of Use: Its easy to use if you know how to use a compressor. The layout is quite straight forward. Quality: Not sure how long it will last but I've had it for quite a while and it's still fine. I wouldn't really put it to the test (if it ain't broken, don't fix it). You can use it for hours and it won't overheat. The construction of the unit is considerably rugged. I would take this on travel with caution. Value: It's a good bang for the buck. Manufacturer Support: Haven't required any so far. The Wow Factor: It didn't blow me away but it is worth the money. Overall: Sweet

Sound: Not Noisy. If you know how to use a compressor, you will be able to use this unit and be satisfied with the results. Can be rather transparent, but does not handle "pumping and breathing" all that well. What I mean, is that for special effect compression... you want a different unit...probably an LA-2A, or 1176. In a pinch, you can make this unit pump and spit....but it distorts at over 16-17 dBu... Feature: For this price, it's PACKED with features. Dynamic Enhancer function works really well...but I suspect that it is more of a stopgap measure to make up for cheap VCA's... The sound is really all that matters, however. The peak limiter is not nearly as effective as the DBX model 166 that I own... Quality: Well Made...Behringer is strange. Some products (consoles, EQ's) are absolute crap. However, the dynamics processors that they offer (esp. the solid-state models) are easy to use, and well made. I would keep a backup of this model if I were going to take it touring...but when I go on the road, I have a backup of LITERALLY everything that I need to perform, and then some. Value: Couldn't be any better without stealing it! Manufacturer Support: Have not dealt with support persay, BUT, I did choose the output transformer option (instead of servo-balanced) and they handled the task quickly and with aplomb. The Wow Factor: Can a compressor be sexy? I mean, it looks OK in my rack....but the ladies usually want to know what an "Aural Exciter" is!....(then I give and get examples of how "Aural" and "Oral" are two different things!) Overall: I have many compressors (13 channels total)...this is just another pair of options that I have. Try chaining the compressors together in an insert.... Insert input to Channel 1...tie channel 1 & 2 together with a patch/XLR cable, and Insert Output to Channel 2.....very nice and smooth series compression....or very flexible compressor--->limiter
