What is a USB Condenser Microphone?
The primary type of microphone used in recording studios and radio stations, condenser microphones are the ideal choice for capturing vocals and acoustic instruments. Unlike a dynamic microphone, a condenser microphone collects sound from throughout an environment such as a room, rather than only picking up what's happening directly in front of it. It is capable of capturing much more detail with wider, flatter frequency response.

Trouble is, conventional condenser microphones aren't made to interface with a computer -- you have to provide a microphone preamplifier and an analog-to-USB interface.

But the C-1U has a built-in USB interface that derives the needed power directly from you computer's USB input and requires no special drivers. Just plug in and start recording your masterpiece!

Does Awesome Sound Come Any Easier?
The short answer is no. Unlike most other USB microphones, you won't need to download any additional drivers to begin using the C-1U right out of the box--it even works with Vista!

You also get an extensive software package with Audacity for recording, Kristal Audio Engine for editing and multitracking, Podifier uploading software and PodNova downloading software. It works like this: Connect the mic to your PC or Mac. Load Audacity and save your recording onto your hard drive. Now load the included Kristal software and you can edit your recording or add tracks. Now you're ready to upload your work onto the Web via Podifier.

Sound That Astounds
Getting started with the C-1U may seem like child's play, but this pro-caliber microphone is anything but a toy. It has an exceptionally flat frequency response and pristine sonic resolution that ensures content-rich audio that is as natural sounding as the original source. The cardioid pickup pattern provides unparalleled sound source separation and feedback rejection. The C-1U's ultra low-noise transformerless FET input circuitry can handle extreme dynamics, from 40 Hz to 20 kHz, and has a maximum sound pressure level of 136 dB. That means that even if the special guest on your next podcast happens to be a revved-up jet engine, this workhorse mic will not distort!

Here's Why You Need a C-1U...
Far better sound quality than the dynamic microphone you're probably using now
With its built-in USB interface and comprehensive software package, just plug in and start laying down tracks. You don't have to download any new drivers, and it's perfectly compatible with Windows XP/Vista and MAC. USB connector and swivel stand mount included.

"Great deal for the money, solid quality build"
Feature:
Straightforward--plug and play!

Quality:
For the money I can't tell a whole lot of difference any more from the so called brand names. I have a $20 Behringer microphone I use in my band and I don't care if it gets trashed or stolen. But the sound is awesome! My snobby guitar player had an AKG he owned for 10 years. After hearing this one he ordered one and is keeping his AKG home for recording.

Value:
Best bang for the buck!

Desirability:
uhhh, it's a mic?

Sound:
This mic is great for the money. The Behringer stuff is built solid. Sure there are some lemons in the bunch but when they're good, they're a great value. Great clear crisp sound.

Ease of Use:
Plug and play!

Support:
Never had to deal with them, my Behringer stuff is solid.

Overall:
Great value for the money, solidly built! Buy it!

"I did try...."
Feature:
Well, the C3 has vairable patterns. But this is of no importance because the poor sound quality and the large amount of hiss this mic creates on your recoundings.

Quality:
OK, one must admit, this mic seems to be sturdily build, but this does not help because the sound quality of this mic can be best described as beeing horrible

Value:
Instead of wasting money on this mic, or on Behringer gear in generall, use this money to have a night out, or give it to charity, or save up and buy something better.

Desirability:
I had some of them, I sold them for very little. No, I don´t want any of these terrible mics

Sound:
I had several of these mics, ´C1´s and C3´3. They are all Behringer. They all sound like Behringer, and you might already know about the most famous Behringer quality. If you a clean sounding mic that does not generate a lot of híss on your recordings, then stay away from this mic. This mic creates a lot of hiss on your reordings and therefore in my opinion is not useable.

Ease of Use:
As any.... needs Phantom Power. The sound is what counts and what is important.

Support:
Behringer and support, these are two different things. Behringer wants you to buy their stuff, but the do not want to hear from you anymore once they got your money.

Overall:
For only a little more money you get something much better. Don´t waste your money on Behringer
