Product Description

When it comes to your studio recordings, you want honesty. That's why we designed the new B3030A and B3031A Reference Monitors to speak nothing but the Truth. Oh, they still sound great hooked up to your stereo or your video surround system, but they were really built with the studio in mind -- where every note you play or sing is "under the microscope."

Built on a Legacy

Behringer's Truth B2030A and B2031A monitors have been so wildly successful that we've sold thousands upon thousands of them to some of the most critical ears on the planet. So, from the moment we started this project, we knew these new speakers would have to be something really special, and indeed they are.

Years of R'n'D

For the past two years our Research and Development team has been on a mission to create the "perfect" studio monitor. Since the Truth B2031A had already become the industry standard, our acoustic engineers decided to start there and see just how far they could push the envelope. They tried a variety of transducers and enclosure designs, along with existing and emerging technologies. When all the dust settled, they chose to deploy an ultra-high resolution, 2" velocity ribbon transducer and a long-throw, Kevlar-coned woofer in a deformation resistant, die-cast aluminum chassis.

Why Kevlar?

We're glad you asked. Kevlar has an incredible strength-to-weight ratio -- that's one reason it's used in bulletproof vests. Kevlar gives our LF transducer the strength to handle the extremely high energy levels required for distortion-free, chest-pounding bass. And since they have such low mass, Kevlar speaker cones also respond much more quickly than those made of paper, important for not only maintaining bass content integrity, but critical for midrange accuracy and definition. Our Kevlar transducers reproduce even the subtlest nuance of the low-frequency realm without muddying the midrange.

What's with the funny-looking tweeter?

Ribbon tweeters bring a level of accuracy and sophistication to high-resolution studio monitors that was previously unattainable. They provide exceptionally wide horizontal dispersion (for a larger "sweet-spot"), while holding the vertical dispersion extremely tight. And since our ribbon transducer diaphragm is virtually weightless, it reacts instantaneously to changes in the high-frequency content. Now, not only do you hear the dulcet tones of a flute, you hear the breath flowing through it... You hear the wind chimes bouncing off each other... You can hear the fingernails on the nylon strings of a classical guitar...

Another reason why ribbon tweeters are so supremely accurate is their ability to reproduce frequencies far above our normal hearing range. Even though we can't hear these "ultrasonics," the lower harmonics they generate do affect the way we experience the stereo image. For instance, a 30 kHz signal is too high for us to hear, but we can hear its first sub-harmonic (15 kHz), second sub-harmonic (7.5 kHz), and third (3.75 kHz), etc. All these sub-harmonics combine with the primary sound to create stunning realism.

Power to the People

It takes quite a bit more than just a "bulletproof" woofer and a high-tech ribbon tweeter stuck inside a fancy box to make a studio monitor of this class. It also takes power -- and lots of it. But even more importantly, that power has to be matched to the individual highand low-frequency tranducers. While some of our competitors are content to stick whatever speakers they have on the shelf into haphazardly designed boxes and then strap on a one-size-fits-all amplifier package, we build every single component from the ground up.

We pack 225-Watts of bi-amped technology (including a time- and phase-corrected active crossover) into every B3031A (110-Watts for B3030A), ensuring that you have the enormous power reserves you'll need to drive them really hard.

Designed to Work in Your Environment

The ideal environment for listening is a room that is "flat," neither too reflective (echoes) nor too absorptive (where the sound is muffled). But since all rooms are not the same acoustically, all Truth monitors come equipped to function in a wide variety of situations. Switches are provided to adapt the monitor's low- and high frequency characteristics for optimal performance specific to your listening environment.

Placement is also critical. Ideally, all loudspeakers should be placed away from walls to ensure proper bass response. But fear not, B3030A/ B3031A monitors feature Room Compensation switches so you can place them against walls, or even in corners. Walls tend to enhance low-frequency content, and corners exaggerate bass even more, but your Truth monitor can be custom-tailored to provide honest bass response for your situation, with the simple fl ick of a switch or two.

Non-fatiguing, Wide "Sweet Spot"

While some of our competitor's studio monitors have a highly focused "sweet spot" (the optimal listening position for a pair of loudspeakers), our wave-guide is designed to create a much more generous, broader listening zone. That means you won't wear a hole in the carpet in that one spot where everything sounds great.

You are free to move around inside the stereo image to find the ideal spot in the mix for subtle instrument or effects placement opportunities. You also won't suffer the ravages of "monitor fatigue- syndrome," an ailment that comes from listening to harsh high mids and treble content for hours on end. The new 2" velocity ribbon transducer, along with our proprietary wave-guide design, generates silky smooth high-end that is non-fatiguing, even during those all-night mix-down sessions that can test your nerves.

Hearing is Believing

We could bore you to tears with all the technical jargon (if you really like that stuff, there's a special treat at the end), but hearing the TRUTH will make you a believer. From the "bulletproof" bass of its Kevlar woofer to the silky top-end of its ribbon transducer, we think you'll agree that nothing in this class outperforms the B3030A and B3031A monitors.

zZounds has verified that this customer bought this product from us. This review has been selected by our experts as particularly helpful. "Amazing Speakers, Great Quality Studio Sounds, Usable as Keyboard Speakers through a mixer. Highly Recommended!"
Sound: Sound has been amazing. I have several friends that have heard these speakers and they all said they sound amazing. Very crisp crystal clear mids and highs, bass is great with nice smooth tones. I run them about 3/4 of the power and in a large 25x20 room they blast it no problems and thats not even turned up from the mixer side of it. I usually run about -4 so they have plenty of power. I use these mostly for my Keyboard setup and vocals and either or combined sound excellent. Highly recommend these. I stopped up to Sam Ash and also Guitar Center to listen to all their studio speakers. I took my Behringer's with me to compare and the guys all agreed they thought sounded the best overall, especially considering the money. I can't say more about hem other than you're not wasting your money at all. Well worth it. I'm using these plugged into a Behringer X1204USB and all in all, love the setup. Feature: There are adjustable settings on the back to give you a little tweaking on crossovers of the mids'highs'bass basically but you don't need to bother with them. Unless you have amazing hearing, you aren't going to notice the changes at all. The Gain button could be a little bigger but then again, its not like you are ever going to adjust it once you have your mixer tuned in correctly. Power button is located in a great spot, right on top and it makes it convenient to use. Ease of Use: Right out of the box, hookup, plug in and you're good to go. Honestly, these blew my mind. I was so iffy on all the other speakers and I was just about to bite the bullet and buy the Bose L1 system and I'm glad I saved my money and bought these instead. Plenty of great sound to be had and for a price I feel is right. Quality: Very sturdy speaker. Has great weight to it, nice cabinet design. Ribbon tweeters look like a studio option and I could tell a difference between the quality of the highs and mids because of it. Value: zZounds made it a no brainer for me to purchase as I took advantage of their 4 easy payments. I will mention however, I was under the impression I would not see an credit report hits on my record using the zZounds but don't be fooled. It will show on your credit report unfortunately but it did allow me to free up some of my cash for other things right away so its a nice service. I would rather have an ongoing account limit though after it's all paid off so you do not have to hit your credit with a hard inquiry again. Don't settle for the 2021 version, definitely worth the extra $100 to get the B3031A series, huge step up in mid-high qualities and I notice it with my keyboard playing. It's like getting speakers worth twice what these cost as an upgrade. SO Manufacturer Support: I haven't had to use them but I have used Behringer support in the past and they were always great. I don't anticipate any issues with this speaker as its built very well. The Wow Factor: I personally would only change the color of the power light. Instead of the standard little mini round led, maybe a light blue light instead to just go with todays trends. Looks cooler. So if all i can change is the light, the design is great. =) Overall: I dont see any reason for me to even consider purchasing any other speakers. I have had so many compliments on my setup sounds good that I don't see much room for improvement. I'm not fond of how the new mixer effects work on the latest X1204USB from behringer but I'll get past it.

"Very good sounding speakers for the money."
Sound: Any review of how a speaker "SOUNDS" is purely subjective to the reviewer. If at all possible, the best thing to do is to listen for yourself with source material you are familiar with. To wit: These speakers were purchased mainly for use with my Tyros 2 workstation. Reviews of the various sub woofer/ small satellite speaker systems for this type of application left me a bit cold. I really wanted something better than overpriced and under powered boom-box speakers for a stand alone speaker system. Reviews of earlier Behringer studio monitors suggested that for the money I should really try the B3031As. I compared the Behringer B3031A speakers side by side with the original version Mackie HR824. Once adjusted to a similar gain and low and high end settings I listened to various selections of classical music. (i.e. Spartacus Suite No.2 "Adagio of Spartacus and Phrygia" will give most any system a work out!) It's not how loud ya make it, it how ya make it loud...! The B3031A speakers appear to be a quasi rip-off of the HR824 design, (even down to how the sheet metal covering on the back is punched out and bent and the placement of the toroid power transformer and so on). The B3031A speakers are represented as being reasonably flat, however, to me the speakers have a bit more tone coloring in the mid-mid range and somewhat in the upper registers when going through transitional frequency sweeps (very Legato arpeggios). The high end, via the ribbon tweeter is crisp but then again I noticed subtle differences between this type tweeter and the dome tweeter in the Mackies. The high end sound focus is fairly broad so placing yourself in exactly the right position to hear the "sweet spot" is not necessary. While these speakers aren't exactly Hr824 clones they do sound very good by themselves. Plenty of *clean* bass and lots of undistorted volume. These speakers are superior to many I have listened to in the same price range. Feature: For this type of powered monitor there are adjustments on the back to get a customized sound for placement and drive level. Don't know that there is too much more to be done to the speaker itself, it's more a matter of getting the room acoustics cleaned up. Ease of Use: Plug it in and turn it on. Apply audio and adjust to suit needs. Forget it is there. Couldn't be easier. Quality: The B3031A appears to be built as well as the Mackie speakers... only other option would have been to make the case out of steel.... These speakers are heavy and reasonably rugged. They are mainly for studio use and might not do well on the road (as with any studio monitor!) Value: My opinion is that these speakers are worth the money that most retailers are charging but not the "suggested retail". ($500 for a pair or less is reasonable). They may not be the ultimate speaker but then again I didn't want to mortgage the house to buy a good monitor setup for my keyboards.. Manufacturer Support: Haven't needed it yet. The Wow Factor: "How would you rate the "sex appeal" of this product?" Sex appeal? These are black boxes that sit up on a shelf. Might have sex appeal to the Goth in us... Basically studio speakers are something that is relatively transparent and don't really get that much notice unless they sound bad. Overall: I expect to use these speakers a lot to get my basic mixes from the keyboards set up and for the amusement of friends and family and other assorted victims. So, I expect they will have a lot more use than the Mackies, which are my studio reference speakers.
