Storm Music Studio is music creation software, which accurately emulates the universe of a real recording studio: synthesizers, drum machines, sample players, effects, mixing table, sequencer... With the same sound quality, but for less money!

Storm presently hosts 13 instrument modules described below. Build your ideal studio by placing these instruments on your rack. Meteor, Arsenic and Orpheus, an example of a dream studio for Trance. Replace them with scratch, Hork, H3o+ and EzTrack: now you've got a Hip Hop studio !

Shadow
Shadow is a synthesizer fully designed for creating convincing chords and pads. Thanks to high-quality features (pulse width modulation, no sampling, no aliasing), it provides you with a very pure sound, while emulating an analog sound close to the famous analog synthesizers of the 80's.

Orpheus
Orpheus is a polyphonic synthesizer. It has all the qualities of a classic synthesizer:

2 ADSR envelopes

2 oscillators with a wave table sweeping system, a ring modulator and a synchro mode
a multi-mode filter

2 LFO's

128 users presets and 64 patterns

Like other STORM synthesizers, you can control the knobs with an external MIDI device, and you can play it with a MIDI keyboard.

Bass52
Bass 52 is a bass guitar synthesizer. Sounds are generated by physical modeling. The sounds are much more realistic than the sounds created by sampling: plucking, vibration, and string dampening! You can customize your module, so it can generate various types of sounds: metallic, damped, slapped, hit and so on.

EZTrack
With the EZtrack module, recording sound becomes child's play! EZtrack comes with the following features : Cut/Copy/Paste, Thru mode toggle switch, Punch-in / Punch-out, tempo sync. Record voices, instruments and various sounds to enlarge your personal sample library.

Hork
The Hork module is a new drum machine producing sounds inherited from rock and hip-hop styles, especially designed for those who love "acoustic" drums sounds. Hork is provided with lots of sounds: Bass, Snare, open hi-hat and closed hi-hat, Rimshot, Clap, a number of Ride and Crash cymbals, 2 Tom cymbals, and a Tambourine.

Psion
The Psion drum machine provides you with a percussion kit: cymbals and charleys rendering a light and metallic sound; a bass drum and a tom, giving more of an "electronic" flavor.

Scratch
Drag and drop the samples you wish to mix on the deck. The samples are automatically set on the beat. You can then control the pitch of both decks, as well as the fader between them. Click on one of the decks, a hand is displayed and you can scratch while moving the fader.

H3O+
Four tracks are available on which to place samples to be played in parallel with the synthesis. With the time-stretching and pitch-shifting features, your samples immediately get the proper tonality and follow your piece rhythm. But you may also desynchronize them, change their tonality, or simply duplicate and transpose them. All modifications are made at once, that's the magic of Time Stretching/Pitch Shifting in real time. You can import MP3s, Waves or AIFF, everything is allowed. Moreover, Storm detects automatically the beat of imported samples.

Equinoxe
With this, you may create chords to accompany your composition. This module associates 3 sounds and allows the creation of rich background chords. Three superimposed oscillators... and a maximum control on all envelope and filter parameters: attack, decay, resonance, modulation, and cut-off. Programming the chord grid is very simple and is performed, as always in Storm, in real time.

Puma
The Puma drum machine offers a variety of exotic percussion sounds, with the same facility of programming as Meteor and Tsunami.

Meteor
This drum machine offers the sound samples that gave electronic music its place in history (do you know TR-909). As is the case with Tsunami, it is fairly simple to create a new rhythmic grid with four various dynamic levels for each beat. You may modify the pitch and decay of each sound, everything will be recorded dynamically in your pattern.

Tsunami
The Tsunami module is a 100% synthesized drum machine with 8 oscillators all fitted with various controllers: amplitude, frequency envelopes, band-pass filters, panoramic and level of each sound. Each control is recorded dynamically to create your own patterns with astounding sounds !

Arsenic
The Arsenic module is a real-time bass line synthesizer. It includes 64 programmable presets, several shapes of adjustable waves, a set of different dynamics for each note, and a low-pass resonance filter modulated by a cut-off frequency. Conclusion: an immense variety of vintage sounds with a few clicks. zZounds is an authorized dealer of Arturia products.

Arturia Storm Customer Review
Sound: Arturia claims that some pros use this to generate some of their sounds. I'm no pro, but for home use and composing electronic music this package sounds very rich and rewarding. The loop-based synths are both easy to generate repeated sequences, but it is more difficult to emulate longer passages. In other words, this works out fine for traditional rock and especially Dance/Trance/Techno, maybe even hip-hop. You still need to be a musician to play good long passages via a Midi controlling keyboard (or other instrument sources), then use these passages in the samplers for other kinds of music (classical, jazz, longer solos, etc). For ease of learning, I give this a big fat ten, though. You will be making Superb tunes using the handy wizards in about 10 minutes! Moving towards more creative veins will take due time and talent, however. Hours of fun. The most distracting toy for the computer I have ever bought. Love it. Now I want to build a VST studio, also. Quality: There are a few bugs. This will likely change with version 3.0 this spring. (all upgrading is free) Value: have you priced the other packages? At $75US, Storm is a bargain. A pro VST studio can involve $3000+ in software alone. Manufacturer Support: quick response Overall: Need more synths. Rewire allows you to multiply Storm in sync (ie basic setup is 4 instruments + 3 effects machines, but you can added a couple more Storms simultaneously on 1 machine, plus record the master into a sample and multiply the tracks/voices infinitely). This is not as flexible as major pro sequencers such as Cubase ($$$$$$). Other have had problems using Storm as VST module, this will change with version 3.0, I imagine.

"Arturia... please answer my emails!"
Sound: After having spent two days installing the softwear on my computer (which is well within the manufactures specs) I have to admit, the sound quality was good. But it doesn't take much to produce good sound on a computer. Feature: If there is a way to import WAV files into the product, I have not found it. Quality: The best quality of this product is the box it came in. Value: If it were free, I may give it a higher rating. Manufacturer Support: I have tried four different times to email the company for tech support. It has been over a week, and I have not recieved a response. I have sent them every phone number, mailing address, and email address I have... nothing. The first guy that wrote a good review of this product either works for the company, or lives in France, which is where the product is made. The Wow Factor: I don't want it... I want to get rid of it. Expensive lesson to learn.
