Professional Accuracy, Clarity, and Performance in an Affordable Powered Monitor
By combining our expertise in reference monitor design with our proven track record in studio amplification, Alesis' new M1 Active Biamplified Reference Monitor offers the incredibly accurate response that perfectly translates to every playback system. Its internal active crossover and custom-designed dual amplifiers ensure an extremely consistent performance under a variety of different studio conditions and program material. The result is a broad, extremely flat frequency response, clear imaging with a wide sweet spot, high power handling, and detailed high- and mid-frequency response that only a professional powered monitor can deliver.

Custom Drivers Designed for Active Monitoring
The M1 Active's woofer and tweeter were specifically designed for the most linear, low distortion response in powered monitoring applications. Its 6.5 inch woofer cone is formulated from non-woven carbon fiber. It's a material that has been used for the skins of combat aircraft wings, since it offers high tensile strength and low weight. In fact, carbon fiber is 25% lighter than polypropylene (the most common driver material) and hence provides quicker transient response in the low frequency range for superb bass response as well as a vast improvement in the detail of critical upper-mid frequencies. The M1 Active's inch tweeter dome is made of pure silk, which offers a natural response that aids in preventing ear fatigue during long mix sessions. It also features an internal pole piece mounted phasing plug and is ferrofluid cooled to maintain the best balance of transient response to power handling.

Active Bi-Amplifiers and Electronic Crossovers
Two audiophile-quality amplifiers - a 75 watt woofer amp and a 25 watt tweeter amp - were developed for the M1 Active, along with 8th order high- and low-pass electronic crossover filters. The crossover point was carefully chosen at a low 1500Hz, and produces an extremely wide dispersion zone as well as low midrange coloration. Also, the special time alignment circuitry that's been added to the tweeter section of this crossover allows the output of frequencies from the high and low drivers to occur in perfect synchronization, avoiding the time smear that's typical in less advanced powered speakers.

Attractive Cabinet Design with Dual Ports and Offset Tweeter
In developing the M1 Active, the Alesis engineering team discovered that dual font-mounted ports provided the fastest, most coherent and extended low frequency augmentation. Also, the unique offset design of the high frequency driver allows for the flattest frequency and power response in a speaker that offers such wide dispersion. The M1 Active's attractive mirror-imaged, charcoal-toned cabinet and magnetically-shielded drivers allow for placement in close proximity with computer or video monitors, and offers the added benefit of blending beautifully into your studio's decor without being obtrusive. They may be mounted in either a horizontal or vertical placement to best fit your studio's requirements.

The Alesis M1 Active
With the lineage of our TEC Award-winning Monitor Onet Studio Reference Monitor, Alesis speakers have already become a standard in project and professional studios around the world. If you're looking for the same great accuracy and detailed response in a powered system that's truly affordable, the answer is clear: the new M1 Active from Alesis.

Alesis M1 Active mk2 Biamp Monitors Reviews

"You've Found Em"
Feature:
A really, really good instruction manual was included. Power cables too. But no speaker cables were included so factor that in when shopping. Spend well on the cables. Official Alesis Bass port plugs are the only thing missing from this excellent set of low cost, high quality monitors. I'm sure something could be crafted up if needed.

Quality:
Gave it a nine because one of the Blue power leds didnt work out of the box. I ended up putting a piece of tape over the other speakers led cause it was too bright anyway!! They are really bright infact :)

Value:
These are worth more than their selling price. I think the company knows it and made a bet on it.

Desirability:
These are a practical addition to my set up. Again if you read through the included manual it goes to show how deep the company went into R&D. The set is designed the way it is for a reason. To lay flat or upright depending on what your mixing. Their almost two sets in one because of this. Thats genius. No more using a different set to mix vocals...genius.

Sound:
These speakers sound excellent for their cost. Listen to your favorite artists through them while tuning your master EQ and your set. I've used many low cost and these are one of the best. Some say the highs are too high or the mids are to high...adjust your EQs. These are just plain crisp. Get over it. A subwoofer option designed specifically for this set would be very nice. But don't change the recipe Alesis these sound honest.

Ease of Use:
Again tune your master out and your ready to roll. Occasionally sound check your work on other systems of course! Just like other speakers you'll adjust to these, but I believe it isn't as hard as of adjustment.

Support:
If you haven't looked at the .pdf manual yet then you need to do so. It will show you what type of company your buying from. It becomes quite obvious Alesis is very dedicated to what they do while your reading this precise and informational product manual. I dont think I'd have a problem with them if I needed to speak to someone about something.

Overall:
I've owned these speakers for 6 or more years and they're holding up just fine. I paid the same price for them then and would do it all over again if these failed on me now. Way to go Alesis. Thank You.

"Accurate Stereo Imaging For Your Home Studio. "
Feature:
The convenience of internal power is wonderful. These speakers are compact, yet highly accurate. With a mini-jack adapter you can even hook these up directly to a laptop, as the input is line-level and can go straight into a headphone jack. Which is amazing, considering the huge, rich, 3D space which envelopes your head. No amp needed, true convencience with the satisfaction of mixing through a system you know is accurate. Can you beat that!

Quality:
For the accuracy of sound to price, this would be hard to beat. In fact, considering the satsifaction of being able to hear your music so accurately for this price, it's somewhat of a miracle.

Value:
For the money, this is a great investment for your studio. Hey, if you have no limit on money, I would of course say buy a pair of monitors that are legendary, but if you are on a budget -- the Alesis will do the job with ease.

Desirability:
Great looking speakers, they are just the right size and color. In particular you can feel the quality when you lift these as they feel very dense, solid and tight.

Sound:
Just a bit of background information first: I compose and rough mix with Sony 7506 headphones, which I highly recommend for the price versus flat response. I am done composing and the time for mastering has arrived. I had pre-researched many entry-level project monitors in the 300-500 dollar range for about a year. I'd planned to buy passive speakers and use a Kenwood Kstat amp (very clean 200W) to power these, but my amp became unusuable for an odd reason. I was very fortunate to come across a pair of used Alesis powered monitors in a music store, I literally pounced on them considering the price. Being intimately familiar, of course, with the subtle nuances of my songs through the Sony 7506 headphones -- I was eager to hear the mix through speakers/air. Naturally there is far greater bass presence, as well I clearly detect all the mids and highs where I expected them with a few revelations here and there that headphones simply cannot produce. For mixing and mastering the Alesis create a nice sound field, allowing you to immerse within a rich 3D space.

Ease of Use:
Ease of use would be highly rated, considering that the power is interal and you simply need to plug them in and your off. These speakers take either RCA (guitar) jacks or more advanced balanced jacks (vocal mic 3 pin). Here, I have quarter inch jack adapters (guitar) attached to RCA type cables which lead to a stereo mini-jack adapter which goes into the back of my PC. This sound is so clean, I don't even use my protools rig anymore.

Support:
I have not had a need to contact support, but I did find the Alesis web site quite reasonable with good links and resources.

Overall:
My mastering/mix experience is going great with these monitors. Alesis recommends stuffing a sock into the ports if you feel there is too much bass presence. After several months of mixing, I found that I prefer to hear full, deep bass and as well to stuff both ports for a tighter, mid sound -- which would be typical of your average listeners consumer level speakers. Most of the time I have one of the two ports stuffed, in order for the air to flow to cool the internal power. I'm quite particular about sound accuracy and I consider myself educated and fairly experienced to variation among speakers. I would absolutely recommend the Alesis to anyone looking to buy project monitors.
