When KRK Systems prepares to design a monitor, their primary goal is to deliver a true acoustic interpretation of the mix. In other words, what you put in is exactly what comes out. Their line of Rokit Powered studio monitors is no exception. The RP8 incorporates many of the high-end features found on KRK's premium series products, and delivers them at a price perfect for home- and project-studio budgets.
Precision-matched components
The RP8 Is an active, bi-amped monitor with 70 Watts for the woofer, 20 Watts for the tweeter, and an integrated 2.4 KHz electronic crossover. Unlike passive monitors, KRK specially matches the power section, electronics, and output drivers for streamlined performance. You can be sure all frequencies from 45 Hz to 20 kHz are sent to the most capable speaker, with enough power to provide plenty of volume without distortion. The cleaner and more precise the monitor output, the tighter your mixes will be. You won't believe the details you've been missing, once you hear your music through Rokit monitors.

Improved cabinet for better sound
Every component in an RP-series monitor is designed with your music in mind. Even the cabinet helps improve your mix. Most monitor enclosures are little more than rectangular boxes with sharp corners. These squared-off edges tend to diffract, or spread out, audio waves as they pass through. This leads to an overall muddying of the mix and an unfocused stereo image. Since the essence of a good mix is the ability to balance each sonic element in its own space through the stereo field, you can see how diffraction can be a problem. The RP8 has rounded corners to reduce edge diffraction, clean up the stereo image, and enhance the "sweet spot" where you most accurately hear the mix. When you hear everything, you can polish the little details that transform a good mix into great one.
Slotted bass ports
As with any small-footprint monitor, bass ports are essential to a big, full sound. These ports let the lower frequencies travel outside the enclosure to develop naturally throughout the room. Traditional bass ports are round, which tend to trap some of these frequencies. The lows bounce off of each other inside the port, causing distortion as they leave the cabinet. KRK uses a slotted port design at the bottom of RP monitors to drastically reduce distortion and deliver rich, focused low end. Again, the more accurate your monitors, the better your mix.

All KRK Rokit Powered Series monitors feature a proprietary signature yellow woofer made of a woven glass aramid composite that delivers a tight low-end response and a soft dome tweeter for natural sounding highs. The drivers are electronically crossed over and are bi-amped for increased efficiency. All of this is housed in an attractive cabinet with radiused corners that reduce edge diffraction resulting in better audio imaging. The rear input panel features phone plug and XLR connectors to accommodate any application.

"WOW"
Overall, if you have 500 to spend on a pair of monitors, and are looking for the best bang for the buck, get these. I admit it, they arent short of the mackie's by much. At the same time, compared to the Yamaha m80's.....that's a different story. Those are so detailed that you can hear a spider fart in a corner. But i didn't have the extra 200 bucks to spend, nor do i care. I love these rp-8's, and hopefully they will last for a long time. HIGHLY recommended.
Sound
Smooth, sweet, right on it. These monitors are pleasing to the ear. No listening fatigue, no overpronounced frequencies. Right on the money. Sure, the Yamaha M80's, and Mack 824's, are better, but they cost a hell of a lot more. I am 100% happy with the rp-8

Nice high frequency adjustment on the back. No bass adjustment, but you shouldnt be EQing monitors....that defeats their whole purpose.

I love the look of these. Super high quality casing. They are built link tanks- and wiegh a hell of a lot.
