DigiTech Vocalist Live 2 Vocal Harmony Processor

No longer available at zZounds
Automatically generate live multi-part vocal harmony by analyzing guitar chord progressions.

A surprising number of songs "fool" other harmonizers because these songs just don't work with a single key/scale setting. In fact, any song that has the same note sung over two different chords (for example, a C sung in the melody over a C maj / F maj chord sequence) is going to confound conventional harmonizers.

Vocalist Live uses breakthrough musIQ™ technology to directly analyze the output of any electric or pre-amplified acoustic guitar (no special MIDI guitars or hex-outputs needed). Then it generates the correct vocal harmony. For example, if you're singing an A over the chords that are generally found in the key of G, Vocalist will harmonize with a C. But, if you then play an A major, Vocalist will shift to the C#...because like any good harmony singer, it listens to the guitar!

With musIQ, forget about the technology -- just sing and play! Skip complicated programming and having to analyze each song chord-by-chord; just...

1. Plug in your microphone and guitar;
2. Pick a 3rd or 5th-above or below harmony preset;
3. Sing and play -- when you want harmony, just step on the footswitch!

Patent-pending musIQ™ technology combines new Note Detection algorithms with state-of-the-art Harmony Generation. The Note Detection section analyzes complex guitar waveforms and determines which notes in each chord are critical to accurate harmony. This information is then fed to an advanced harmony engine that creates harmonies consistent with both the singer's melody and the read more underlying guitar accompaniment.

This totally new, musically-intelligent hybrid of traditional chordal and scalic harmony modes means that Vocalist Live musIQ harmonies stay true to not only the overall key and song scale, but also localized variations due to chords that aren't part of the global key. You've never heard anything like it!

Overall the product is great. There are things I would like to see changed, but none the less its great.

Sound
It doesn't have the sound of the TC Helicon, but the harmonies still sound very nice. I personally think that one harmony sound much better than two. When you use more than one harmony you begin to sound like a bad eagles cover band, but it does work well when you sing a hymn. The vocal effects leave much to be desired, but you can get by with them in a small setting. I use a tube preamp for my mic and the preamp on the digitech just can't make it sound as sweet.

Features
You have the option of up two harmonies at a time: high, higher, low, lower, unison 1, or unison 2. I wish you could change the harmonies with your feet, but the pedals only turn the harmonies on and off. It does have reverb, compression, and a type of eq, but the quality of the effects isn't that great. This unit really shines as a harmonizer, not a vocal preamp.

Ease of Use
It is the only plug and play harmonizer I have ever used, and it is dead simple to operate. It is not completely idiot proof, but close.

Quality
It feels likes it's well built, but I haven't had it long enough to tell yet.

Value
The TC Helicon is confusing to use and 800 dollars. This one is only 350 dollars and a steal at that price.

Never dealt with the company, but harman international makes some amazing products. I doubt I would run into a problem

The Wow Factor
Ummm... It looks good, but very generic and not that flashy. Which is good for me, crazy colors and designs just look cheap. The best products have a very elegant and simple look to them. This one is no different.
