Feature:
With the VS2400 you are not just limited to using it's small screen for info. You can connect any vga monitor and mouse for better viewing and faster working. It is user friendly but like anything it does have a learning curve. Most of the basic recording functions are common sense. If you need help with anything the vsplanet.com website exists, making this the recorder with the best technical support. The hard drive has plenty of room. The effects are good but do need tweaking to personal taste. It would be nice if it came with a USB or SCSI port for computer connection or adding a hard drive.
Quality:
The VS2400 is a solid machine. The automated faders are nice. As long as you reformat the Hard Drive every 2-3 months it should run flawless. They suggest every month, so if it feels slow, it may be time to save projects to disc as .wav files to remix at another time. Keep the memory decently clean and it will run forever. You have the ability to record at sample rates from 44.1 to 96. Sound quality is up to you. All sound good to me. Very dependable!
Value:
I think that the VS2400 is the best digital studio in this price range. It is very comparable to the VS2480 and about $1000 less. With 8 channel recording at 1 time and great editing and effects this is a great value.
Desirability:
Nice design. Practical layout. MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!
Sound:
This machine will reproduce any sound you record very accurately. It is digital so the sound can be a bit sterile, but that is the nature of digital recorders. You can always fatten up the sound by adding some tube mics or tube preamps into the tracks. In comparison to other brands, I think the Roland stands out in its sound quality. 10
Support:
Roland is easy to reach and will help you with any questions regarding technical support. I have had no warranty issues so I'm not sure how the repairs are taken care of.
Overall:
At the rate technology grows, there is always something "better" right around the corner. The VS2400 has covered it's bases as being a model that will keep up sound and feature wise. I expect this to be the heart of my studio for a long time.

Overall:
I LOVE THIS BOARD!!!! yes it took some learning, but I think that if I can do it anyone could. I now have my very first CD, recorded, mixed, and mastered, and it sounds great! thank you Roland. only complaint is the manual. it just seems they have put it in a more logical order. then again I knew nothing about recording when I started.this recorder does it all, and it will download your tracks in formats that can be used by pro tools or any other music program for further mixing. and oh yeah I'm doing recordings for other people too and building up eqipment store by trading for fancy mics, processers and cash to!!!
