"An Exhausting Treatise on the Yamaha DGX-202 Portable Grand Keyboard"

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Sound
Sound is pretty good, but a little soft. Also, the piano voice is distinguishable from a real Yamaha grand piano, but difference is still slight. Touch sensitivity is MUCH more precise than a Casio keyboard's at the same price, though the Casio has more features. And since it's sort of soft, a lot of times you have to crank up the volume all the way when using it as a Portable Grand, and so there's some "Sssssshhhhhh"-type noise coming from the speakers.
Features
The fact that the keyboard doesn't include an AC adapter pretty much forces you to buy the Survival Kit, which is sort of annoying. But, the Survival kit includes other stuff (headphones + pedal), so it's not like they're ripping you off or anything.
Quality
One defect - one of the keys is noticeably harder to press than the rest, and it feels "mushy". Nothing serious, though, and the keyboard still works perfectly. The pedal in the Survival Kit squeaks when pressed, which is annoying.
Value
We got Keyboard + AC adapter + Pedal + Headphones + a $50 bench + a $30 stand... all for $330, half the normal price! Talk about a bargain!
The Wow Factor
Looks pretty good, but if it had more buttons instead of a really long Function menu, it would look better and be easier to use.

"Best Keyboard in its Class"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
This one should satisfy me for a while, though I am currently looking in the Yamaha Clavinova series for a keyboard with weighted keys (which this one lacks). Even after buying a digital piano, I'm sure I will keep this around for noodling around with.
Sound
The "digital grand" piano voice sounds the closest to an actual grand of any keyboard in this price range.
Features
Lots of features, but to get an AC adapter and sustain pedal--which should be standard equipment--you have to get the Survival Kit, which is extra.
Quality
"Champagne silver" and sky-blue metallic styling make it look a lot more professional than most keyboards in this price range. I've had no problems with "sticky keys", static, "fuzzy" sounds or the like. It's still working great after one year of almost daily use.
Value
This keyboard is head-and-tails over any other in its price range, and even some more expensive.
Manufacturer Support
Never needed to use customer support.
The Wow Factor
For this type of keyboard (for the casual home hobbyist), it just looks and sounds great.

"Good Keyboard"

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
No, I won't replace it....I'm pleased with it.
Sound
Most of the tones are slight variations of about 100 tones, but the variations are good. The problem is to remember them!
Features
Accessories have to be bought separately; the kit that came with it contains headphones and adapter. The headphones are not of good quality, but of course, you would need the adapter if you don't want to spend a fortune on batteries! I suggest a keyboard stand as well.
Quality
Good quality product; not too heavy, can be moved around easily, but a little bulky (but then, with 76 keys....)
Value
Great bang for the buck.
Manufacturer Support
Company takes a while to answer the phone, but helpful. I will do business with them again.
The Wow Factor
Grey keyboard, black stand...looks nice!

"Sound? Expect less with more potential"

Overall: 4 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Verified Customer zZounds has verified that this reviewer made a purchase from us.
I would seek a keyboard that was more tailored to an intermediate music hobbyist. I would prefer not to pay for pre-canned songs, chord dictionaries, and music lessons--particularly at this suggested retail price range. Perhaps more style choices around popular rhythms and orchestral backgrounds would be attractive.
Sound
resonance on certain notes creates a vibration in the onboard speakers. The keyboard speakers were very weak with volumes and effects maxed. To make the music sound more complete and richer I purchased the ms50 powered media speakers. With the add on speaker set, my music hobby is even more enriched than with my old PSR 500--I nearly returned it because of the weak speaker system.
Quality
The lightness of the construction may be a contributor to vibration resonance within the infrastructure
Value
I would pay no more than 200 U.S. Some retailers were charging over 600 initially prior to so-called sales.

"An excellent value for the price."

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
I compared this board to others in it's price range (and higher), and I found the sounds and features of the DGX202 better than anything I played. I may purchase a higher end board soon, but I will keep this one as part of my small studio setup.
Sound
This baby rocks! This is easily the best sounding keyboard I've owned to date (this includes Yamahas and Casios).
Features
I found the Eduction Suite very useful in helping me teach keyboard basics.
Quality
This keyboard is well made. I have owned it for almost 2 years and it has stood up well to my daily playing. I also like the over all look of this keyboard.
Value
Best bang for the buck. I purchased this keyboard for 300. US and feel it was well worth the price.

Yamaha DGX-202 Keyboard Customer Review

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
I don't expect to look for a new one until this one is worn out.
Sound
The sound with the built in speakers is a little hollow. But it sounds great with headphones.
Features
I didn't buy the keyboard for a vast number of features but was suprised by a couple of the ones I found. You can easily transpose what you are playing, and you can adjust the touch sensitivity.
Quality
Every now and then (very infrequent) note will play rather loudly. It doesn't happen very often and this keyboard is for personal use so it doesn't bother me.
Value
I was looking for something that would sound like a real piano since I no longer have mine and this is great for the price.
