this bass combo is amazing. I can not get over the ease of use and the volume it is capable of. my wife sitting upstairs in the other part of the house felt and witnessed the windows vibrating.!!!! and i was only on 7 with more room to go.fantastic.the design of the cabinet/logo is outstanding.

"Great Amp, Missing a Couple Critical Features"

Overall: 3.5 out of 5 stars

TC Electronic makes killer gear, and the BG500 is no exception. Five hundred watts is more than enough, and the classic 2x10 configuration pushes plenty of air--even with 5-string basses--for most gigs. But it's missing a couple of features that leave me scratching my head: effects loop, speaker out for connection to another cabinet, and footswitch-able patches. Why provide the ability to save three distinct bass sounds but not provide the logical means to switch between them? Why not include a simple circuit that allows effects in side chain? Finally, why not provide a speaker out so the player can add a 1x15 to the mix? In the manual, TC claims the amp is so expertly tuned that adding another cabinet is unnecessary and might adversely affect the sound. Really? I doubt it. Since I'm not a rockstar and don't use outboard effects for the most part, I don't foresee having any gigs where the BG500 won't be sufficient. But other players might, and the absence of these features is annoying. However, the price is right, and the saving grace is the amp's tone, which is only colored if you want it to be via the Spectracomp compressor feature. Tweetertone is a much better solution than a simple attenuator for adjusting the highest frequency levels as well, so that's another plus. And it is nice to be able to dial in and save your own presets, but having to turn around and punch a button to change them is not so nice. Overall, it's a solid bass amp, but you'll need to change your mindset if you're a bassist used to the traditional options.

"Just great for the price"

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
As i write just greate for the price. Extreemly good sound like for bit more than 500USD. 500 watts is more than enough to play small/medium concerts.Looking good, sounds great even comparing Hartke or Ampeg, I just love the possibility of creating your own sound. For less than 2 years I played with combo more than 60 concerts. i also have a other head, but TC sounds so good to me that I reserve more space to travel with this.
Sound
Sound is just great for any kind of style. I play metal mainly, but sometimes jazz, blues or other stuff. You can take from eq almost whatever you want.
Features
So first thing that makes me a bid mad. No connection for external speakers, 500watts its more than enough, but I though about add 1x15 pack to have a little stronger bottom, but I cant. No efects loop, i dont really need it but somebody can.
Ease of Use
Form me it was pretty easy to have what I want. But you have many possibilities, from input, spectracomp, eq - bass, bass-mid, mid-high, high, tube ( drive ), tweetertone.Thing whats annoying me is phones out, when you plug the phones, speakers goes to mute. For playability it shoud be switch to mute speakers.
Quality
Made great, side, matches, everything. A bid heavy, but as for 500watt combo it still good.
Value
bg500 is worth every pence for quality, sound, possibilities, just great.
Manufacturer Support
for more than 2 years and many concerts i don't need it.

This amp will exceed expectations for sure. If you love the TC sound and want to get it on a budget this amp will get you there. The Eq is very responsive and all of its features are amazing. Its a bit on the heavy side at 70lbs but its still very moveable. I would have loved to see this combo about 20 lbs heavier then it really would have been competitive with the lightweight combos out there. For the price though this combo cannot be beat. Its very very loud. And cuts through the mix incredibly. If YOU are looking for something more modern sounding you might look elsewhere though. overall I give this amp a 4.5 out of 5. great combo. The only serious gripe i have is that there is no way to connect a different cabinet to the head, but at that price point there isnt anything else that will either. So that seems fair. Its still a great bang for your buck tho. especially if you get a coupon and get the price reduced. Happy jammin!

I think the amp is fantastic for the price. The DI is silent, and includes a pre/post switch. It has the famous memory presets which are great. The sound of the amp is outstanding. I love the tube tone emulator. The spectra comp is great as well. The only down side of this amp is that it weighs 70 lbs. its on the heavy side. Its very loud and can easily keep up with a full band. you will lose a little clarity when it starts to get too loud for you to clearly hear your self anyway. I got mine discounted on a sale day. Great bang for the buck. If your considering this amp. Just pick it up. all the features make it worth it. I mean it even has a built in tuner.
