This audio interface is great, i have a DC power source that i carry with my portable set up and this lets me record literally anywhere. The universal jacks are great especially with phantom power.

Musical Style:

I am a producer not an artist of specific genre, as a hobby I make cinematic music and scores for films

I bought this interface for one reason, to use on my iPad 3 with the Multitrack DAW app on the app store. No setup required, I turned on the app, powered up the iPad and plugged it in via the camera USB kit. All six mic pres and the digital stereo input showed up as assignable right away. The tascams pres sound better than I would have thought for a product in this price range. I also installed the included Cubase 5 LE on my little HP Mini laptop to try out the tascam, it worked great. I was able to record 6 tracks simultaneously for about 16 min (would have gone longer but I was bored of waiting) without any issues. This was done on the internal HD of the mini. All in all I am very happy with the tascam us 800, I can multitrack record with my iPad and capture fun jam sessions almost anywhere.

I purchased this but had to return it - turns out tascam's drivers are rather horrible. In my case I work with a laptop - if you put your laptop to sleep the unit WILL NOT WORK again until you reboot. Even if you do reboot, it may freeze up and stop audio output. I have no idea how this does on windows. I ended up having to return the product, but on the upside that was very painless - thanks zzounds for that!

Not sure, 6 channels suits my needs currently, needed multi channel on ipad for recording drums. Maybe at some point I will look for an 8 channel device higher overall quality but that is another expense level up front this entry level device.
Sound
I don't have much experience with pre amps but this suits my needs for sure!
Features
External controls are solid and smooth.
Ease of Use
No learning curve here. Plug in and start recording, pretty easy on an iPad2 no less!
Quality
Quite a solid device, portable too.
Value
Great value for the money spent!
Manufacturer Support
No problems so no need to contact support on this device.
The Wow Factor
I wanted this device as it is one of the few devices "supported" by iPad app Multitrack DAW. most iPad apps can only really do single channel recoding, Its the ultimate portable recoding studio 6 channel simultaneous recording on an iPad!

Musical Background:

20 years playing drums, 5 years guitar, recording now as a hobby.

Musical Style:

Rock, folk-rock, bit of funk in there too I guess, more on the rock side though.
