In the past I’ve played nothing but cheap and used drum sets. Even when I was looking into purchasing a drum set, I almost went for a lower cost one. I had to tell myself that I needed something I was gonna be happy with. I tell you, I am very happy with this drum set. I have the Matte Black with smoked color hardware. I immediately replaced the heads for some Evans g2s and a genera dry for the snare. My drums set sounds amazing! The bass drum comes with a clear o-ring around the drum head. So I didn’t replace that one, and it sounds great! I’ve had my drums for more than a year and couldn’t be happier. The hardware is sturdy and just Tama quality. The cymbals are the meinl and I think they are good to have. Eventually I want to get some other ones but for now these are getting the job done.

These look and sound spectacular! I changed the heads as the factory heads were a bit bright and did not WOW me. I put on some Evans G2 coated and an Aquarian Super Kick and it is a world of difference! I suggest putting on your favorite heads or listening to some comparatives. These are NOT going to sound like a 3K high end maple kit but they are pretty great for the price. As for the Meinl cymbals, I was really impressed. The ride and HH sound awesome! The crash is pretty great but I suggest adding a second 18" crash and another Tama boom stand (these stands are nice and sturdy!) The pedal feels really nice, as does the HH stand. Nice hardware all around! For the price it's a fantastic kit!

"Poor hardware quality"

Would have rated this set a solid 4 as shells, cymbals, and heads are good quality and value for the price paid. Overall sound is really good as well. Hardware was solid as well with exception of the hi-hat stand which is complete garbage. The spring in the stand failed after 13 months of moderate use. It is not serviceable and Tama would not help out what so ever on warranty as it was only 1 month over. My only option was to purchase a replacement.
