Wow! This guitar is AMAZING! These upgraded alnico pups are fantastic. They are super low output. Probably alnico 2. Maybe 3. I wanted to get this guitar to change everything up and upgrade things. Honestly? No need. As a fender elite owner. And a new player series mim strat owner. I can say this blows away my mim strat. This is a professional quality instrument for a bargin! At first i was worried about this new laurel fretboard. The pictures on here do it no justice. Its a very lovely piece of wood. Looks like a light rosewood. The pictures give it a grey-ish hue. But be warned. this came setup HORRIBLE! lol now, i have experience with setting up guitars, so 15 minutes and she was playing perfect. But if you have no experience setting up guitars. Take it to your local guitar place. Runs about $40-$50 for a proper setup. Aside from the set up this guitar is perfect. I plan to sell my made in mexico strat now. Amazing job Squier! I got the lake placid blue

This Squier is fantastic. I would say it is better than the standard MIM fender strat. The quality of the neck and the tone is amazing. I have owned several squiers, epiphones and MIM fenders. This Squier beats the rest. I guarantee if it held the fender name, it would cost double.

"I miss my 60s Squire Strat"

I had this guitar for 2 years I got the 2018 Indonesian model . The build quality was amazing . The Tone Rider blues pickups were pure Hendrix. I miss this guitar I wish I'd put a fender neck on this . The only downside to this guitar was the narrow youth orientated neck. Rolled neck edges are just to small for and adults hands.

This review is for this guitar only: MBP FEN0374010502 I purchased this guitar as a "blemished" item thinking to save some bucks and put up with a minor discoloration or ding or somesuch. I liked the feel of the neck, the pickups sound good and the weight is good, too. I thought it was better than a Fender Player I demo-ed earlier this year. However, here are the problems with the guitar: a) lower bout cut / paint discoloration (cosmetic blemish does not affect playability).b) Some frets need polishing (does not really affect playability but it does affect the player)c) corrosion on pickup pole pieces (does not affect playability though it is strange--I've never seen that on any strats I have owned in the past--even one that was close to 20 years old)d) B string pinch in nut (tuning / playability issue)e) A and D strings do not intonate correctly (affects playability)f) 5-way switch (the slot in the pickguard might not be cut long enough to accommodate complete movement and/or the switch is wired improperly reversing the 4 and 5 pickup positions). If you're someone who likes to mod guitars and you're handy with a soldering iron, then this might be your guitar (but get the lowest discount possible or consider Harley Benton and SX, if you're a modder).
Sound
It sounds like a Fender and feels like a Fender. I've had other Strats and this one sounds like they did. Then out is loud enough and crisp (maybe even a little too trebly), and I even liked the neck pickup. The Middle tone control this on this particular guitar lacked subtlety and it was not until you got to about that it made a noticeably dramatic difference (muffled rather than smoothed the tone). You'll probably want to change the pots and switch.
Quality
As noted above, unless you are willing to solve the intonation issues (if they can be fixed) and the 5-way switch problem, you'll be battling with tuning and never quite knowing what sound will come out in the 4 and 5 switch position.
Value
I think the Blemish price is still too high. I see that Sweetwater has demo versions at discounted prices (about $20 higher), but they post pictures with blems detailed. I foolishly forgot to ask in advance what the "blemish" was on this guitar and it had already been repackaged.
The Wow Factor
The paint job is a pretty speckled blue (darker than the photo) and the neck is really, really comfortable. It's tinted nicely too.
