I have spent several thousand dollars on bass guitars. I've bought 3 American preformer serious and sent them all back. 2 of the 3 had dead spots on the fret board. The 3rd which was a jazz bass was like a grandpa bass. I couldn't get the action down without killing all the tone. Right now I have 3 basses. A schecter j4 it's a 900 dollar bass. A fender players serious p bass it's a 700 dollar bass. This bass is 228 and it plays and sounds just as good as those do. Save yourself time and money and try this bass. Maybe I just got a good one but I absolutely love it.

I have maintaining my own guitars for 30 years or more.At first the bass seemed OK for an entry lever Bass. But then I could not keep the string action the same it would change on a monthly basses. After about 6 month of this I notice a gap between the neck and the guitar base. removing the neck to see what was a problem found a lot of sawdust in the cavity and the screw holes for the neck were raised. I cleaned the cavity and countersunk the holes in the neck and base. Made much deference. After getting the action whate I liked it found at lease four raised freth (the 3,5,8,16,17frets).I spot leveled the frets to get rid if most of the buzz.I was going to hot rod the bass but decided to buy a better one instead, A Spector NS Pulse 5-String Bass , Cinder Red. Five times the money but worth every penny. Now going to do a proper neck leveling job on the squire to see if can save it.

I needed a bass pretty quickly and while on a budget I couldn't afford the extra $75 or $80 a month for a more quality bass that I was going for. So I went for the $40 a month option. I'll be honest and say while this is a good bass for the price and good for Squier's quality it is not the bass you want to play live unless you do some modifications. That being said it is fun to play with, does not sound bad, and really a perfect starter bass. Playing guitar and bass for over 20 years has made me critical, even of starter instruments...but I will say this is not a bad bass and kinda fun. I'll be upgrading basses by next year but still see myself keeping and playing this.
