Electronic vs Acoustic. This is always pulled at my heart strings as a drummer. I ultimately went with a lower level electronic kit with the purpose being practice only and putting more money into my acoustic kit. The TD 17 has really changed the playing field.SETUP: Out of the box, everything went pretty smooth. I took down my old kit, trashed it, and put up the new kit in under 90 minutes. It was relatively easy. I had one cymbal holder that is not being used, but after reading the directions I started to understand this type of rack in used in the whole TD 17 series and it's supposed to be that way for this model. Packaging, well, everything was taped, wrapped in foam, and every cymbal and pad was boxed individually. Prepare for a lot of trash. I do appreciate the care in packaging and I feel confident that all a part were safe during traffic, but I wonder if there might be a less wasteful means of packing (which has nothing to do with the kit, I know). I like the plastic clips they provided to help control the wires. I did a little more preparation and bought a roll of velcro to add as well. The wires blend into the kit and not very noticeable. The kit itself is pretty amazing. The sound dynamics and being able to customize so many things is really amazing. I spent just as much time tuning my e kit as I did on my acoustic kit. The dynamics in volume with each stroke on the pads is comparable to acoustic and the most impressive is the choke on the cymbals, yes!! Finally! On my last kit, sometimes playing a faster song I would get an accented note when it should have been a ghost note. With the TD17, I'm not running into that at all. Trying to get the correct sounds out of cymbals seems to hardest for any company, but thank you Roland. Playing electronic cymbals have always been like dragging nails down a chalk board. I started to lose technique and started to focus on getting the correct sound on the bell, bow, and edge trying to hit the pad harder or softer. The cymbals do a much better job tracking each hit and actually choking. I do like the sounds loaded onto the module, but I also enjoy that it's not overloaded. Most users do not use all the sounds that it comes with, which is just taking up space. I have plenty of space to add my own sounds and kits. My last kit had 74 preloaded kits and space for me to add 7 of my own kits and I used 15 kits. I constantly had to erase kits and add new ones. I have the space to add 50 user kits. Nice touch.Connecting to Melodics was simple. It's still growing on me, but I do like it. I think Melodics will eventually become part of my weekly practice routine. I do see myself growing with this kit. Couldn't be happier. Thanks Roland!

Perfect Drum Kit for the Intermediate Drummer or The Weekend Warrior... Has everything you need to rip off face melting drum solos and if you decide you need more then you can go ahead and add more equipment to it for Roland has it all... Also like that you need to supply your own kick pedal which is important to any serious drummer... it makes my DW 7002 double bass kick pedal sound deliciously... Easy to set up and the module has endless amounts of features that will keep you playing for hours everyday.... Roland is the best and will be for decades to come

I am a truck driver and needed to find a set that I could put into the sleeper of my truck and be able to play while on the road. This set is great for that and it sounds great and the editing options are endless. I would recommend this set to anyone! The upgrade possibilities are endless also! zZounds shipping is great I got it in 3 days before I was expecting it!

Recently bought Roland’s TD-17 and the bass drum is already ripping from the top. Bought the kit 2 months ago and I play once or twice a week. Other than that, the kit is actually pretty sweet.

Roland definitely delivers on their product. The cymbals are amazing. I think this is the most impressive part. Previously, I went through the motions with electronic cymbals, knowing I wasn't going to get the proper sound or ability to choke. I wanted to get the muscle memory down and take it to my acoustic kit. These cymbals are way more realistic. I like the rack, but I wish the pole for the snare was a couple inches longer. The snare is underneath the tom. I do like the joint the snare is mounted with though. Playability is nice. Loud, medium, and soft sound much better and I get a better roll sound. The Bluetooth option wasn't what I expected. I can connect my phone wirelessly, but I don't care about that. My phone using a wired connection is fine because it doesn't move. I wanted my headphones to connect via Bluetooth, but they cannot. I don't want to be wired to my kit. Disappointed there.I also need to record. This is where the major disappoint comes in. I have been recording with past kits for years, and have never run into so many issues with this kit. I read the instruction manual. Read the support on their website. Talked to other musicians. Tried to find info on youtube. Nothing. Still cant record. Contacted Roland but Roland's customer service is straight from the 90s. Email or phone. Leave a message and they will get back to you usually the next business day, sometimes two. This is not a $50.00 product. If I have an issue, spending this much money, I expect my issue to be handled immediately, not when you feel like it. I have had an email thread going back and fourth with Roland for a few days now, and I still can't record. I left a message on their 1993 answering machine and I'm waiting for a call back to see if they can walk me through it. I thought I was well versed with Roland and considered them an innovative company. I am shocked no effort is in their customer service. After about a month of owning this, I wish I would have went with Alesis. Live and learn.
