"My golden FP-5"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
As a music professional, I started working with this piano in 2006 and still keep on working with it. From concerts, to MIDI programming for Major labels, to master keyboard for live and studio sessions, this piano has made long journeys with me many times around the world, and yes, it is old now, but I can still play on it and am impressed by its durability and solidity. Of course, the concept of "sound quality" and "brand of the moment" may have varied over the past two decades. And of course, the weight of each individual piano-key is lighter after 16 years, (I'm gonna solve this problem sooner or later! Let me know if you have any help to provide!), but I take care of it and recommend this model to anyone who loves great, long-lasting pianos with awesome essential sounds.

"Why did I not know about this model until now"

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars

We have 3 FP2s that have been used on 1000s of gigs without fault (one needed key switches replacing) bought an FP4 because thought it would be a better model but no! Can’t stand the tone, needed a hammer action piano that also had decent jazz and rock organs and by chance found one locally. Partner loves the pianos and organs, can change the drawbars in the fly to cut through on a jazz gig. Built like a tank and the angled back panel is easier to hook up leads. Only issue is it’s a bit heavier than our others (but light compared to the XV88).

"Great sound and value, I have 2 PF5"

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars

Sound
Real piano like sound,...gave only 9, because high oktaves are a little week in relation the beautifull sound of the mid and low range. I compensate this by using doal voicing (Piano 1 withe Pad/strings 5) for Newage songs and rock ballades. So please start to make the higher oktaves in the pianosounds stronger, more full or little more chorus. The build in speakers should be stronger. (10W each!)
Features
I love that the note-holder is clear transparent, so I do not get seperatet from my listener or the band and have still the possibility to place sheet-music if needed.
Quality
Great metal casing. Looks expensive and elegant.
Value
I have 2 FP5, one for the studio and one for the GIGs, and I can do this, because the price of $ 1400 is just fine. There are a little better e-pianos on the marked, but they are $ 1000 more expensive, and this was to much money for the improvment.
Manufacturer Support
In the last 15 years I never had a problem with my Roland keyboards. I have 2-4 GIGs a week and bought every 5 years the next generation of roland e-pianos.
The Wow Factor
It looks very elegant, great for dinner music or living room. Great that you can buy matching stand.

"Anyone looking for a digital piano should try this out."

Overall: 3.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Most keyboardists I chat with seem to prefer Yamaha digital pianos, and I agree that Yamaha's sound (esp. the acoustic piano) is better, but I gotta tell you, if your hands can get tired after a couple hours of playing, the Roland might be the better bet. Action on my Yamaha is so stiff that I'm probably going to sell it for that reason alone. (I liked the feel a lot at first, but I'm finding it more and more annoying.)
Sound
Sounds are generally very good, but not as strong as Yamaha digital pianos.
Features
Beats are nice to have; internal speakers are good; action is noisy but nice; lighter action than Yamaha, which some may prefer.
Ease of Use
It's a digital piano; how hard can it be?
Quality
Initial quality seems excellent.
Value
A bit too pricey for what you get.
Manufacturer Support
can't say

"Try it first!"

Overall: 3 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
I am going to return it as soon as possible and get a Yamaha.
Sound
The piano sound is artificial. The other sounds are close behind. There is an overall muddiness to many of the tones when more than 5 tones are played together. The electric piano had a nice sound to it as well as the choir voices. The doo wop sound is quite amusing! I have tried it with internal speakers and with a Peavy keyboard amp. The unrealistic tones are not helped by better speakers and amplification. A bottom of the line Yamaha P-60 out performs this keyboard as far as realistic sound quality is concerned.
Features
The auto-rhythms are a nice feature. Numerous rhythms are included. I just wish that it sounded realistic.
Ease of Use
You had better not lose the manual for voices, songs, etc. Fewer buttons translates to more dependence on the owner's manual and memory. Not rocket-science to operate the basics.
Quality
Looks wonderful and feels solid as a rock. The only prblem is that the keyboard is very noisy as the keys strike the bed.
Value
If you don't care about realistic sounds, this is a great keyboard! If I were going to keep it, the price would be $1,600.00 with the Roland stand and bench!

Unknown!
The Wow Factor
Looks great, but sounds only a little more realistic than a Casio toy keyboard.

I will return it without one thought!
Sound
My last review of this same product was removed... This is a very unimpressive keyboard. The sounds are unrealistic and unexpressive.
Features
A nice array of features.
Ease of Use
Many features...few buttons to access means possible confusion for some!
Quality
It appears solidly constructed and attractive!
Value
Current price of about $1,600.00 is way too much.
Manufacturer Support
Unknown - Only had it on loan for a few days!
The Wow Factor
Looks nice and plays second rate compared to Yamaha.
