After recording with the 1824 at a friends studio I was impressed by the XMAX preamps and decided to pick one up. I previously had used Focusrite and MOTU interfaces, and I was planning on grabbing an 18i20 until I heard the preamps on this unit. They are a bit warmer and darker than the Focusrite preamps and I think they sound a bit more rounded overall. My only complaint is that I do find it odd that a modern USB 2.0 interface uses globally switched phantom power.

Hard to write a review on something unusable. I do not want my interface(preamp) anchored to my computer as I record on a standalone recorder. Did not find documentation on this website or the Presonus website indicating that this product is useless unless it is plugged into a computer. Stuck paying to ship it back.
