This latest iteration of the EBMM classic flagship bass incorporates the improved features of the new Cutlass and Caprice passive basses (i.e, super smooth neck heel and comfortable neck) with the quiet, versatile Neodymium pickups that have, up to now, been stock primarily on Bongo basses. These improvements, along with the use of lighter, resonant swamp ash for the bodies, makes the StingRay Special THE bass for fans of the model looking for improve ergonomics and a generally more vintage-type sound than the classic StingRay.This bass seems more versatile to me, sound-wise, than the original StingRay, because of the new pickups, which aren't quite as trebly as the Alnico humbuckers. I still love that classic StingRay sound, but imagine the new version of the bass will provide players with a few more tonal colors for their sound palettes. The neck on these basses have been getting a lot of attention for their comfort and playability. Believe the hype! Plus, the grains evident on these necks are unbelievable, making them beautiful as well as functional.

I was lucky enough to get this bass in burnt apple finish before they went into backorder. The quality of this bass is superior to any I've played. The finish is flawless as well as the neck. The roasted maple neck is to die for, it seriously such a beautiful piece of lumber. The new pickups are awesome and the new hardware is super nice. It's a very light bass as well. Ovarall I think it's a 5/5 star instrument.

"The bass I’ve always wanted"

I’ve been playing for 13 years and as long as I can remember I always wanted a stingray. Watching Flea slap with that axe just ignited my desires. zZounds Play as you Pay plan is excellent and I’ve used it continuously for the past couple years getting guitars and gear and I’m so happy they were able to make my dream from a 14 year old a reality. This thing is a beast, my other nicer bass I’ve used was a fender American standard and the stingray feels just as comfortable, if not more from the beautiful neck and maple fretboard. The weight is perfect, light enough to really feel like it’s a natural extension of your body. Those neodymium pickups are hot! Not too hot like some active basses, really makes the sound one of a kind. This bass is perfect for slapping and if you’re a fan of funk you know that already. I was a little surprised the action was as high as it was shipped to me, but that’s such an easy fix if you know what you’re doing(not too bad, just assumed it would be set to play immediately like my jazz bass was). After fixing the action, man can your fingers just fly. I really can’t give enough praise for the fingerboard, most professional maple fretboard Basses have a thicker polyurethane gloss on top, this one doesn’t and I couldn’t be happier in terms of the faster speeds you can reach because of it. I’m in love with this beauty and you should not hesitate to buy it! Thanks zZounds!
