I purchased the Black Beauty of the two Gretsch G5422DC 12s available through zZounds. I knew it would be good, probably very good. But I am even more impressed with the quality of the craftsmanship, the wood, the tooling, and especially and particularly the sounds of this extraordinary guitar. I only regret I waited so long to buy it. I couldn't possibly be happier with this beautiful instrument. It lives up to its honoured lineage - uniquely Gretsch.

"The easiest 12 string I have ever played"

This is the best sounding 12 string I have ever played and it plays so easy! I fell in love with this guitar in minutes. It plays so much easier than it's acoustic brothers it is unbelievable. Takes a bit of getting used to at first because the neck is a little narrower than my Guild or Martin but it sounds great. Looking for that Roy Orbison sound but in a 12 string and this guitar has it. I was a bit aprehensive at first because of Gretsch having been absorbed by Fender and the plant is overseas but the guitar is worth every dime of the MSRP and the cost is far lower. I am looking forward to playing this guitar for a long long time.

Musical Background:

40 year amateur but I can play most of the tunes, Led Zepplin to Dave Brubeck

"Plays like you remember"

I played one of these back in the late 60's that belonged to a friend. You know when you pick up a guitar and it just feels right in your hands? Always wanted one, never found the time or money. Fast forward to 2013 and now I have one. It still feels right. The new Electromatic pickups are crystal clear and the string spacing makes it very easy to play. Craftsmanship is top shelf. I have tried other hollowbody guitars and they feel noticeably heavier to me. Two last things.... it is eye candy. ....and there is nothing like the sound of a 12 string!! If I die tomorrow,... there isn't a mortician in the county that could wipe the smile off of my face!

Musical Background:

I play for my own amusement. Instruments include Cello banjo, dojo, banjola & guitar

Musical Style:

Anything that catches my attention......

I've wanted a Gretsch 12 string since 1965. I finally got mine last week. It is everything I wished it to be. Great sound, excellent workmanship. This guitar is very easy to play as the width at the nut gives the strings a good spacing. The new pickups are phenomenal! Clear and distinct. Yep,... I gave it all five stars,... except for Mfg support. DIDN'T NEED ANY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!If I died tomorrow, there would not be a mortician in the world that could wipe the smile off of my face.....
