"Not a Guild D212M but that's ok"

A friend of mine let me borrow his 1968 Guild D212M 12 string (US made) before I purchased this Guild D 125 12 (made in China). The only things these two guitars have in common is they look alike and they have 12 strings....that's about it. Their feel and sound are completely different. The 1968 D212 has a very dark and rich sound. The new D 125 12 has a much brighter sound, the guitar is lighter in weight and the neck is easier to play. I was planning on monkeying around with diffident string and bridge pins...one small problem....the action is ...well...perfect rihgt out of the box. How did that happen? As matter of fact, it's action is better than my Taylor 415! I might mess with it in the future after I break a few little g strings. The neck on this Chinese made Guild is excellent. Like the US build this Chinese build has a double truss rod. Another difference is the US build adjusts it truss rod thru the head and the Chinese adjusts thru the sound hole. The double truss rod feature is what made Guild a really great 12 string because it makes the neck stronger. Over time most 12 string will warp around the 5 fret or the bridge will pull out...or both. This guitar is so nice. It's caused me to reconsider the whole Guild guitar line. For the money, you really can't beat this 12 string. It's solid wood and comes with a nice case. The only complaint I almost have is...Guild pick guards are ugly...but that makes it a Guild. Buy this guitar while you still can...the old Guilds are almost gone!

I just received mine yesterday - a birthday present from my wife and kids. This is a beautiful rig with great, full sound, crisp treble and low fretboard action - a must for any twelve string guitar! I tuned it up to Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here and stayed up all night just playing it on a number of twelve string classics(i.e. Gordon Lightfoot's "Wreck of the Edmund Fitgerald" and "Too Much of Anything" off the Who's Next album. This is a great value for the price and it comes with a fairly decent hardshell case also. I ike the mahogany finish - it's unique in both style and playability - I love this guitar. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for real value at a reasonable price.

I've had this guitar for a few months and cannot find anything I don't like about it. First of all, it's beautiful. I did have some reservations about the mahogony top as I've never owned a guitar the wasn't spruce. I was not disappointed. I had a Yamaha 12 string for 10 years and was very happy with it. But this guitar is in another league. The action is very good and it stays it tune. I've read reviews about this guitar that refered to it as "decent for the money" and "an inexpensive beater... good enough for small gigs". In my opinion, unless your talent requires a $1500+ 12 string, get this one.

I've played to one extent or another for 48 years. Play for my own enjoyment.

Rather than focussing on the technical aspects, I want to say that finding a guitar is a very personal path. The D-125 12 spoke to me because I love mahogany top guitars (my favorite six-string acoustic is my Martin 000-15 and my favorite electric is my Gibson faded brown SG) and I've loved Guild 12 strings since I first played a friend's in 1973. So my expectations were high for this guitar and they were all exceeded. What I didn't expect to find is that this is THE perfect guitar for my voice. I don't think there's any way to plan that. I'm in a honeymoon period with this guitar, where it can do no wrong, and where I can't bring myself to touch any others.
Sound
I would change only one thing; I would make it a little less glossy (but this is spoken by someone whose other favorite guitars are a 000-15 and a faded brown SG). It's a minor quibble, because the sound is perfect for me and my voice. On second thought, change nothing. Don't add any cutaways or electronics or more inlays. It's just right.
Features
As I said above, I love all mahogany-top guitars, so the wood was the main feature that drew me here. Otherwise, it has 12 strings and 12 tuners, so that's it for features. Though I should mention the very-high-quality TKL hardshell case, which is an unbelievable feature to include at this price.
Ease of Use
The playing action is low and the satin-finish neck is silky and perfectly proportioned for my playing style. I can't imagine that any 6-string player would have any trouble with the jump to 12 on this beauty.
Quality
I hope to own this guitar for the rest of my life, and leave provisions for it in my will. The initial quality seems great and I'm trusting that Guild is using the same quality control in their overseas production facilities that they use here at home.
Value
This guitar is worth at least twice its current selling price on zzounds.
Manufacturer Support
I have not yet dealt directly with Guild. I do want to say though that this is the second guitar that I have bought from zzounds.com, and their service has been great!

This is a really nice looking instrument, solid woods - well made and finished... Really needs a properly compensated bridge, something I will add later, the tone is very nice, finish is a little thick - so the tones are slightly more "treble" but works and will improve as it is played. My hands are to large to really dig in to fingerstyle as the neck would have to be wider- but chords are lush and brilliant. no picks! Very good value for the money.
