"DO NOT SLEEP ON THIS GUITAR. BUY IT RIGHT NOW."

This might be a bit long, but I wanted to leave a good review on this INCREDIBLE instrument. I would like to start off saying that I am completely blown away by this guitar. I put my order in on Friday afternoon at about 4:30 and the guitar arrived on my porch on Saturday morning before 11:00. I ran up the stairs like a little kid and ripped the box open in thirty seconds flat. As soon as I opened the case and saw the guitar, my tongue rolled out of my mouth and hit the ground like a cartoon. Love at first sight. Absolutely astonished. Immediately, I strapped it on my shoulder and plugged it right into my amp. I instantly fell in love right away. I couldn’t stop playing it. You can get any sound out of this guitar. Those ‘57 classics are no joke. From freakin’ Hall and Oates to Megadeth. You can get any sound you want out of this guitar. The tone is so crispy, fat, gritty and warm all at the same time. I do not own one guitar that sounds even remotely close to this one and I have over twenty guitars ( five SG’s. ) I love it even more than my 1974 Gibson SG Standard and that guitar is amazing. This blows it away. I honestly have no words for it. You have to experience it yourself. From the Maestro Vibrola to the luscious Aged Cherry finish, this guitar is easily the most beautiful guitar in my entire collection. I’ve never ripped my wallet out of my pocket so fast to pay for something. I couldn’t wait to give them my money. TAKE IT!! Do not sleep on this guitar because before you know it, it will be discontinued and you will be unable to finance it through here and will have to buy it somewhere else. You cannot beat that $166 a month. If you’re especially a fan of vintage SG’s, buy this guitar right now. Before you can’t anymore. I give it a 10/10 in all aspects and I can be very picky. You will love it. Trust me.

I have owned several SGs throughout the past 20 years and still have a beat-up 1996 Standard thats hanging on for dear life. It was time for another SG and once i saw this one at zZounds, there was no doubt that had to have this guitar. What can i say? The quality of workmanship is outstanding, the tone stunning, and the Maestro tremolo is just the icing on the cake (i don't plan on using the tremolo a lot...). There is one thing to consider: the tremolo assembly results in a very low break angle over the bridge, meaning that you cannot adjust the bridge very low; this also means that you will have to live with the strings being a little higher than normal... correct me if i am wrong... However: this is an awesome instrument in the Gibson tradition -easily the nicest SG i have ever owned!

Musical Background:

40+ years on instruments that were inferior to this classy guitar!

"Great Guitar!"

I just purchased this guitar and I’m really impressed with it. I’ve been playing for 35 years and I have a fairly large guitar collection over that time. Les Paul’s, DC’s, Firebirds, Strats, Tele’s etc... But I’ve never owned an SG in all that time. Now I’ve gotta say the ONLY reason I considered this guitar was because I wanted a Gibson with a Maestro Vibrola. I Probably would’ve went with a Firebird if I could’ve found one for a reasonable amount of money but I wasn’t interested in spending 4K either. So when I came across this guitar used for 1600.00 I thought I’d give it a try and I’m really glad I did! Pros- This is an amazing guitar that just plays and sounds fantastic. I love how shallow the Maestro makes the string pitch behind the bridge, it’s a super comfortable place to anchor the heel of my palm and allows me to pick fast and clean. I grew up playing metal in the 80’s and a palm mute style of play is just super natural for me, where as a strat my hand just kinda floats over the tailpiece and a Les Paul has too steep a drop from the bridge to the tail piece to really play while resting there. The Neck is very slim and comfortable without much shoulder to it, I don’t care for a chunky round neck, again, I grew up playing Charvel’s and Jackson’s and this neck is slim like that. I also had never tried the 57 classic pickups. At first I didn’t like them all that much, there not quite as full and thick bodied sounding as a burst bucker and they don’t sustain nearly as long either, but after I fooled with the guitar for a bit I really do like them a lot. They’ve got great tone that is all their own and a great sensitivity to pick attach. They really clean up nicely when you roll back the volume, but still keep that sensitivity at a lower volume, I can easily go from a soft bluesy sound to full out Hendrix style roar with a roll of the volume knob and a fuzz pedal. Cons - tuners, I would have rather seen tuners with metal machine heads, I’ve never like these keystone style tuners. I’ve always felt they were cheap looking, flimsy feeling and I’ve seen plenty of them break from a decent whack. I’d much prefer a Grover style tuner on the guitar.Inlays are acrylic, but I suppose that is standard practice nowadays. But if you’re spending 2k on a new guitar I think it should have mother of pearl inlay and not plastic. Bridge - as with any Maestro Vibrola, if you go crazy with it your guitar will not stay in tune, a tiny drop of machine oil on each string helps a lot, but why not offer a roller bridge? This guitar is not a accurate reissue anyway although I’ve seen it described as a 61 reissue, it’s not. This is kinda a little picky because I can see how a standard bridge keeps a classic look also and I like the idea of both. I will upgrade mine to a roller bridge though.

One word for this guitar, BEAST!!!, and a very beautiful one at that! Some say it has high action and the strings can't be lowered to alleviate it. Not true in my case. I'm able to lower the strings all the way down to where they actually lie on the fretboard. This instrument plays like a dream and the 57 Classics just sing and are so creamy I could probably pour them into my coffee. I can find no flaws, not even tool marks on the fretboard. Speaking of the board, even tho it has binding the edges are ROLLED so nice you can't even feel them, which makes for an enjoyable playing experience. The tremolo has also been bad mouthed by some, however, mine works just wonderfully and it doesn't detune the strings one bit, and you CAN do dive bombs on it without the strings going out of tune. I can now understand why this instrument is so expensive. This is quality, real quality, the kind musicians dream of. It's an instrument that has to be experienced to understand what I'm trying to say, and I'm happy to be one of the fortunate ones to own it.
