After playing for 40+ years, this is my first SG. It has to be the cheapest Gibson ever built, but WOW, what a sound! Play it thru a decent tube amp and it'll bring tears to your eyes! It may be inexpensive, but the Gibson genes are still in there.Pros:P90 pickups - Think Pete at Leed's ... it doesn't get much betterLight weightGood action, excellent fretworkSimplicityMin-ETune system - NOT just a gimmick ... it works!Cons:Finish - It looks like the black paint on this guitar was hosed on with rattle cans. Not your typical Gibson finish, but that's why its so cheap. At adds to the charm, too. This is a good guitar to take to gigs in the bad part of town, or to ram through your speaker cab as a finale. Or just use it to pick n grin. Get one ... it's fun!

I know that this SG is one of Gibson's low line guitars, and it shows with no frills or bindings of any kind. The fret ends are sharp it needed a good setup when I received it. Upon further review some of the frets are a tad higher than others. BUT when I did set it up it felt and sounded incredible. The neck and guitar feels so natural in my hands just like it was just built for me!

Musical Background:

I have been playing for over 48 years retired professional now jam at home

I play classic rock, country, Christian, blues, and some contemporary rock/indie

Was always good w/ Gibson products but this one, frets sticking out beyond the width of the fingerboard with sharp corners, good way to mess up your hand. Guitar needs fret dressing done, gonna have to have the frets worked on, another couple hundred dollars. Scratches on the back and intonation check was way off. Think this one was probably built on a Friday. Came in a sealed box unless zZounds repackaged it. Delivery was at end of day by Fedex. Own 1 Custom Shop 56 Les Paul and 1 original 68 Les Paul and 1 SG standard and workmanship far exceeds this. You get what you pay for, however this is gonna be my working, giging guitar, nice and light in a gig bag, leave the good ones at home, or just hang it up on the wall as a collector. If you want a smooth neck, check out the ones w/ bindings. 50's neck is not much fatter and not as fat as my 50's Les Paul. Don't forget to oil the fretboard. Took a micrometer and measured this 50's tribute neck against my SG standard, fatness is same on lower frets and a little rounder at higher registers, might want to check out other 50's SG to get a fat neck that you want, hard to do it online. Other than that, P90 sound is good for what I need. That's Gibson Quality Assurance, wish I could read the guy's signature who signed it off! But hey it's a discontinued model, get it while you still can! Good Luck!
