Being a Randy Rhoads fan all my life (im 54 now), I always wanted the white Les Paul. The Whit custom available has the thick 50's neck on it, so I passed on it. This standard had the same appeal, with the slim tapered neck. Couple things I didnt like about it was there wan no Rhythm/treble ring under the toggle switch, and the tophat knobs. I ordered the the ring, and speed knobs while the guitar was being shipped. I understood why there was no ring under the toggle switch when I tried to install it. The wood was thicker than normal, and the switch would not click in place with the added ring. Gibson might have screwed up on it, and just shipped them as you see. A simple mod the the small plastic toggle knob made clearance and made it work. With the added speed knobs, it looked like th LP I wanted. Note, it says it comes with a brown LP custom type case, but it comes with the regular black USA case. Also, the premium leather strap it comes with is far from premium.
Sound
I was skeptical about the "new ultra modern weight relief", as a chambered standard wasn't what I wanted. After playing it through a good amp, it sustained as good as my solid '76 re-issue explorer. Also, the burst bucker pro pickups are allot better than the burst buckers I have on my traditional pro LP.
Features
Not use to the coil/split/phase feature, and probably wont use it.
Quality
I was able to adjust the neck, and get some wicked good low action out of it. 1mm at the 12th fret with no buzz. I was not unpressed with the slight miss matches around the bindings. The slight ridge between the binding and the neck and body didn't have an old school, detail orientated employee do the job. I had sent back Gibson's back for this reason, but being the neck was perfect, and it played so well, I kept it.
Value
Gibson is a bit high on their prices for top end guitars.
The Wow Factor
It is absolutely beautiful, and has raw crisp / chunky awesome sound clean and dirty.

Not going to lie, I was extremely worried about this purchase. 1. from everyone bash videos. 2. I like 50 style necks and a "traditional" les paul, but man this custom edition to a STANDARD?! Couldn't pass it up. The neck feels great! I can get used to it. but the fret by the nut too skinny for me, but maybe it will grow on me? Pickups sound great to much top end sizzle but for Burstbuckers some people might like that. (can't review taste) weight, I would say this is about a little bit over 8 pounds. (my taste I want a heavy guitar) but this one is for those long shift play nights lol Tone ability. I mean come on. 4 knobs that does push pull... not much you can say. I wish it would have came in a brown case and not the standard black ones that studios come in.
