Gibson Limited Edition J-185 Jumbo Acoustic-Electric Guitar (with Case)

The beautiful trans black finish on this limited-run J-185 lets the gorgeous AAA flame maple top shine through -- giving this rare model an even rarer look.

Anyone that knows guitars knows that you should play the instrument you purchase, as no two guitars really sound the same. I took a chance and ordered this, based on the limited edition Trans Black, I absolutely love the color! I couldn't find it locally, so I ordered from zZounds. A little apprehensive, I couldn't wait to get my new guitar out of the box and see what this beauty sounded like. My, oh my, was I impressed! A few tweaks of a twisted neck, an immediate set of strings, and it pulled every bit of tone possible out of this thing! I love the deep bass that isn't over-bearing, the projecting mids, and balanced highs!

I have been looking for a Gibson jumbo ever since I played an exquisite SJ-200 in Mammoth Music on the Old Seward Highway in Anchorage AK ten years ago. This guitar has the rich, complex tone that mixes a brightness from the maple back and sides with deep resonance from the spruce top. The transparent black finish sets this guitar apart from the natural and sunburst finishes that are the norm. I love the simple bridge and plain pick guard, never being a fan of the ostentatious flower motifs Gibson's are known for. The J-185 size and shape are perfect in my opinion. Just like Goldilocks' porridge.
