I had a set of Seymour Duncan humbuckers, the standard mix of JB in bridge position, the Jazz in the neck, and wanted to hear what they can do in a USA Les Paul. Great pups but they couldn't beat out the stck 490T and 490R set. I love these, no way to duplicate those classic rock tones w/o them...AC/DC to Page to ZZ Top, you neeed these Gibson's!

"490 R Came as stock neck PUin my Gibson ES -137 C"

I own about six guitars and have played off and on since 1968. I grew up in Austin, Texas listening to strictly rock. Tone influences were Hendrix, Page, Gibbons, Stevie, Schultz, etc.... I used to think the classic 57 was my pick up if "stranded on a desert island with only one choice". But after pulling out my old trusty es-137C which I modded with a 57 classic in the bridge and an original 490R in the neck position. This guitar nails vintage rock tones on the neck position. I personally cannot get paste the Page like tone easily achieved with a Gibson 490R pick up. This is a beautiful pick up with tone voiced very close to the pre 65 Gibson PAF..

Started playing in garage bands in 1968 Austin,Tx area Now retired jam at home.

"Married to my Gibson LP Standard."

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
I've had this guitar for 22 years. Probably be buried with me. I've thought about selling it & changed my mind at the last minute.
Sound
This product has never let me down. The sound quality is amazing, from warm & clean to downright loud n dirty, the pickups in my guitar sustain for ages. I use Marshall equipment, which they're full of grunt anyway. I'm using a JCM 800 KK Sigature amp & Marshall quad 4X12 celestians angled bin.
Features
Pickups are 490R neck & 498T Bridge end great, bridge nice, tone & volume controls great. I had trouble with the switch cut out on treble, but sorted now. machine heads a let down went out of tune & some of the heads bent, changed machines to shaeller with lock nuts.
Quality
Shame about the vintage klusons & the switch. I have a reliable guitar now.
Manufacturer Support
Warranty ran out when I got problems, I didn't contact the company as friends & a relative build guitars serviced my guitar. Happy end of story.
The Wow Factor
A Gibson LP always has the X factor.
