Fender Player Stratocaster Plus Top Electric Guitar, Maple Fingerboard

With a beautifully flamed maple top and a trio of Alnico 5 single-coil pickups, this Fender Player Stratocaster Plus Top looks as smooth as it sounds.

The Fender Player Stratocaster Plus Top in Aged Cherry Burst is an instrument that combines arresting good looks with a silky smooth playing experience. A full, comfortable C-shape neck, 3 of Fender's finest Alnico V pickups. And it's a Strat. If you've been playing guitars for more than the time it took me to write this review, you know why a Strat is awesome. The Player Series Stratocaster is a little pricey, especially with the flamed maple top, but it's well worth the money.

I really wanted to check out this guitar after reading about the features and seeing reviews. I was originally going to buy the 3 color sunburst, but when I saw the plus top at the same price, I went for it. The aged cherry is really cool. Aesthetically, it is a beautiful instrument, from the stunning finish to the quality hardware, pick guard,etc.. This guitar has a very comfortable neck that is extremely easy to play. I'm used to a v-shaped neck profile, so the c shape of this one took a few minutes to get used to. Now I can't put it down. This is a 22 fret guitar, one more than the previous standard model, which is really nice. The trem was set up nice right out of the box. It stays in tune remarkably well, even when subjected to some pretty exaggerated string bends. Sound-wise, I am pleased. Great clean tones with that characteristic voice that is the reason to play a strat. Overdriven tones are awesome as well. This is wired so one tone control is assigned to the bridge pickup, which is a change in design. I have read these pickups are supposed to be slightly different from the ones in the standard. I don't hear a drastic difference from most strats, which I consider to be a good thing. The 5 position switch feels pretty smooth & sturdy, providing a smorgasbord of delicious tone possibilities. Overall, this is very handsome guitar that plays and feels great, delivering that classic tone we all grew up trying to capture. This instrument comes without a case or gig bag. If that is important to you, it is a consideration. Personally, I've already got too many cases & bags. The way I see it, this is a very affordable guitar considering the quality and features. They could include a gig bag and probably round up the price to cover it, or sell it without one so you can get a hardshell case if you prefer for not much more than a good gig bag. Anyway, that's just my opinion. If you're looking for a stratocaster, I highly recommend one of these. Do your research, though, because there are many configurations available in the player line, and they're all reasonably priced.

"remarkably smooth & high quality feel, with an exquisite finish; my new favorite guitar to play"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars

zZounds made the process so incredibly easy, I can't recommend them enough. It took me weeks to finally make a decision, and once I did, the guitar was delivered in 2 days. The Player Series does not get enough credit, with the new Alnico 5 pick ups, medium-jumbo frets, it plays so easily and smooth, I can't stop playing. If you think the finish is amazing in the online pictures, wait until you see it in person. It's like a sunsetting in a red sky, absolutely stunning. The satin finished neck makes chord changes even faster. I've had several folks try this guitar from beginner to performer, and they all loved the sound and feel of the Player series. In fact, a performer purchased a Player series the week after he played mine bc how good it sounded. Loving the instrument is critical, bc when you love it, you'll play more and keep improving your skill and create your own style. Happy playing!

"Poor QC"

When I received the guitar the trem claw was at nearly a 45 degree angle, the neck wasn’t properly smoothed out so you could feel divots where the skunk stripe is, and the nut had to be replaced because the low E would not sit properly and buzzed like a banshee and the high E was nearly off the fretboard. I’ve had problems with other Fenders I bought online from other sites so I will not buy another unless I can physically hold it in my hand and look it over. It does look pretty tho if you’re looking for wall art.

A supposedly brand new guitar and immediately needed the nut replaced. Also the trem claw was at nearly a 45 degree angle when I received it!? I get a setup is necessary for fenders but they can’t at least get the claw parallel.
