I have owened Rics, EBMM Stingrays, Spector....and this bass, by far, has a very unique, nasty tone. The 18 volt active pre amp is ...perfect. Dial up the bass....and it thunders, but the mids and treble are where it's at for me. Very "hi fi" sounding....or, switch out the pre amp and go for a more classic Jazz tone. The bass needed a complete setup. Intonation was far off. .so much so, that high neck harmonics sounded terrible. So I adjusted the neck bow, intonation and saddle height to my preference. For 40 years I have set up all my basses. This one set up quickly and has not moved in 1 week now.....as for the quality, very nice, rivaling basses costing twice as much. I am very pleased with the optional natural clear coat one I bought. I also bought the Fender tweed case...it's well worth it. I'm giving the bass 5 stars across because tweeking the string/neck settings to personal preference is to be expected.
