I recently purchased the Fender Road Worn Player Strat HSS from zZounds and love it! I did have to return the original one as it the middle pickup wasn't wired in. It happens. I was able to get my replacement within a few days and it came out of the box perfect! In my opinion, the HSS configuration is ideal for a Strat. The Seymore Duncan Pearly Gates Humbucker in the bridge is crazy hot and the ability to switch to the singles for the traditional Strat sound is incredible. I haved actually grown to love the rosewood fretboard which was strange to me for a Strat. I play blues rock to harder rock and this guitar does it all. Same quality as the Americans since it is basically American anyway-just assembled in Mexico.
Sound
Pearly Gates-enough said! This pup screams! This is pretty much where I leave it and I find that it cleans up as good as it gets dirty. I tend to pick and create harmonics naturally and this is taylor made for my style. Love the tone.
Features
It's a Strat and the size and weight are perfect. I'll probably re-wire the bridge pup to have tone control for more variations. This is a simple adjustment. I actually like the tone and feel of the rosewood fretboard. I usually think of maple with Strats, but this is a nice addition to the collection.
Ease of Use
Just like any Strat, it's super easy to get any sound you want out of it. Neck is comfortable and the modern features on the Player Series are nice. Still get the worn look, but a more modern feel. Best of both worlds.
Quality
These Road Worns are very well made and I plan on having it until I no longer play. That day wont come!
Value
I think the price is in line with the quality, but I always have felt that at this price Fender should include a hard case.
Manufacturer Support
The support was very helpful. I received my first RW and it had a couple issues which we resolved with one phone call. I had my replacement within 3 days. I had a great experience.
The Wow Factor
Love the cool vintage look and feel.
