Fender Road Worn Player Telecaster Electric Guitar (Maple Fretboard, with Gig Bag)

This Telecaster looks and feels as if it's been switching hands for years. It features an aged, well-played look with modern Seymour Duncan and Tex-Mex pickups.

I wanted a Tele with a neck humbucker but was hesitant to pull the trigger on this one beause it was "Worn". I am so glad I bought this. Its a great guitar.
Sound
The combo of the Tex/Mex and the Duncan '59 are fantastic. All three pickup settings produce great and usable tones. From the brightness of the single coil to a muddy(not overly muddy) neck humbucker. The two together is in between but the Duncan seems to overpower the single coil just a bit.
Features
Don't let the "worn" scare you off. Its lightly worn not over done like the other worn teles. The C neck is the best feature. very comfortable. A bit less chuncky than my Epi les paul . The finish on the neck has been worn making very smooth and confortable to play. I wish it had to old ashtray/barrel bridge though.
Quality
Came well packaged. The action was already set to my liking. The intonation was dead on.
Value
I got this for about 850. For a MIM it seems a little high but the quality is there. If they made an American Standard with a bucker I would have went that route. Why they dont? Who knows? Spending almost 900 bucks this should have came with a case instead of a gig bag. So its a 4 star.
Manufacturer Support
Have not had to deal with Fender. Zzounds was great as usual.
The Wow Factor
I love it. I use it for every style except for metal. Not that it can't. It probably can. But I use by Gibson V for that stuff

Needed a Tele. Wanted a nitro body and 9.5" radius neck with a humbucker in the neck position and a modern bridge. The Road Worn Player fit the bill nicely.
Sound
I'm pretty specific about the tones I want from a guitar. I find the Tex Mex in the bridge to be a bit ice-picky. Fender have installed 375K ohm pots for both the vol and tone--a compromise I guess for the single coil and humbucker. This doesn't work for me: the single coil is too bright and thin; the humbucker is too woolly. I'm going to re-wire the guitar with 500K ohm pots and put a 220K ohm resistor on the single coil. This should brighten up the humbucker and dampen the Tex Mex. Really, this is something that Fender should do on a $1000 guitar. Also looking to upgrade the Tex Mex with an Area Hot T for a bit more beef in the bridge position.
Features
The neck is excellent. It really is the most comfortable neck I've ever played and I've owned 30+ guitars. The radius and large frets mean that you won't fret out on bends. Very nice playing neck. I appreciate the modern bridge and saddles; I not a real vintage guy, so I'm not a big fan of barrel saddles and ashtray bridges--I find they just make the guitar less comfortable to play. I like the aged appearance of the hardware.
Ease of Use
Playable right out of the gig bag--the guitar arrived very well set up. It holds tune and is very fun to play.
Quality
A quality Fender product. I'm not a real brand snob. If a guitar is fun to play and sounds good, I'm happy. MIM works for me.
Value
Zzounds price matched a competitor, so I got a GREAT deal on mine. Very pleased with this guitar.
Manufacturer Support
Haven't contacted Fender; although, I imagine they would be helpful. I rated them a four as this review system requires you to rate the manufacturer, but I don't have any experience with Fender.
The Wow Factor
The relic job on the body is a bit hokey. It looks like a monkey went to work on selected areas of the body--so the wear is extreme in a few places along the edge of the body and non-existent in others. The whole body isn't slightly worn as you would expect. Fender did a nice job 'satinizing' the finish over the entire body, but the heavy wear areas are a bit too much. It's either very worn or slightly worn. As it's nitro, I expect that it will begin to wear a bit more naturally. I bought a parchment guard, which I prefer it to the stock black pickguard but that's just my taste--this increases the Wow factor for me.
