"great sound, value, performance, +++"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
looked into this for a long time...nothing else beats it...if you are a pt guy
Sound
I do not like the preamps....but even using crappy mackie pre`s make a lovely recording....I never use the ints di`s all inputs come from my 1604vlzpro bal line level and this thing sounds great with no noise verry nice.
Features
everything that it says it has works great, i wish it had seperate i/o for outboard efx/comps but for the price good
Ease of Use
if you never used ptotools before you may have a little curve for use, but if you use an approved computer the thing works great, rem the lower down on the list your computer is the more choppy it will run. I have a mac mini and it even works on it.
Quality
some of the buttons a bit funny( not funny haha). but oncde again for the price
Value
I think everything is overpriced a good wireless beltpack is like 4 grand with no mic or receiver. everyting is overpriced...but everyone needs there cut eh?
Manufacturer Support
helped when i needed it...but keep your reg stuff handy
The Wow Factor
is a box what do you want the best gear in the world looks like c**P but you don`t need funny lights to make look cool.

"Protools is the industry standard and 002R makes that an affordable reality."

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Digi always has their little quirks and some things that users grumble about, but bang for buck, there's little out there that compares favorably to the 002R and PTLE on a Mac G4 or G5
Sound
Our studio uses both HOST and TDM PT systems. Digi001 sounded good and now the 002 sounds even better. A very comparable sound to the high end PT systems.
Features
The interface itself is typical. I/Os and rack ears, but the power of the 002 is in the Protools. Incredible engineering software. We support other platforms such as Logic, DP and even Cakewalk in our studio, but PT is our main platform and whether it's TDM or Host based, PT makes profitable in studio production a reality.
Quality
We've heard stories of occasional troubles with the first units that hit the street, but our 002R has performed flawlessly since we installed it. As did our 001 when we purchased it several years ago.
Value
We are a full service for profit studio and we require maximum return for our investment. The 002R keeps it's suite busy and productive. We've spent MUCH more money on studio additions that haven't returned a tenth of what the 002 has.
Manufacturer Support
We should probably rate it higher than 7, but frankly we've not had to contact Digi for support on the 002R and the rating simply comes from second hand reports of people that have.
The Wow Factor
Another TDM or PTHD system would have been nice, but the gap in price didn't justify it. And now having worked with the 002R I can see that, although our TDM Suite is incredible, the 002R comes so close that I would easily consider it again in a heartbeat.

Digidesign Digi 002 Rack Customer Review

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
untill this thing becomes totally obsolite which will take a long time im sticking with it
Sound
this is an amazing piece of equipment. the pres are amazing the converters are amazing. i think that people who dis this device and say that the pres are decent dont have any idea what there talking about. they say the pres are flat or something. the pres in this thing are focusrite platinum series. not digidesings own brand. trust me i opened the device up myself and sure enough i saw that the preamps were focusrite. focusrite preamps are great becuase they are flat. if you want color then you can have the option of adding it in later with eq. i think its great to add color later cause some interfaces already color the sound in a certain way that makes it hard to work with certain sources. you figure you have a singer with a very low end bassy voice. if your preamps are already colored with a low end boost its gonna be very difficult to try to eq that vocal you see what im saying. i have had friends that have got themselves on the radio with this device. so anyone who says that the pres and converters are nothing or avereage just dont know what there talking about. i have gotten more than home or project what ever you want to call it sound out of this thing. if used right. my sound sounds like it was done in a 400,000 dollar studio. also i graduated from brookhaven technical school where they teach sound engineering and my teacher who has worked for the hit factory and disney for one point in his life, i would think he knows what he is talking about.
Features
protools is the best
Ease of Use
extremely easy to use
Quality

Value
definitely worth it

"Great sounding interface"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
I like it...
Sound
The sound is very impressive and precise. I have to agree with others that like this unit. Very impressed with the audio quality.
Features
I think it has all that you need. Although another headphone output with separate control would have been nice. Overall very sturdy unit so far.
Ease of Use
I have to agree with some of the negatives on this one. From most of the negatives I have read, these people just don't have it setup right and that is why they don't like this unit. I don't know if it is any easier with a Mac, but using a PC it took me several calls to get it dialed in. I had issues with having to turn off my wireless card and buffer size issues. I have to set it to 256K and higher to get it to operate efficiently. I no longer have any issues... Turn it on and record for hours.
Quality
Great sounding pre-amps... don't know what people say why they don't sound good. There are better pre-amps available, but we are talking about a medium to low end recording solution. I think for the price they are great! Put it this way... Whenever I start spending $1000+ for microphones, I will upgrade the pre-amps.
Value
Great value, but I always like for things to be cheaper.
Manufacturer Support
The support is great. I always had someone helping me with my initial issues. On-line and in person. They are there to help and do. If you plan to use it with a PC have your cell phone batteries charged. You will be calling to get it dialed in. Just don't give up like some of the negatives you have read. It will work when you figure out why your PC is not working with this unit.
The Wow Factor
If you are semi-serious about your recording and want quality recordings... get it.

"Good Gear for Your Ear"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)

This review has been selected by our experts as particularly helpful.
Great product. I've had it for over a year. I'd probably run out to buy another tomorrow if this got stolen or something - can't imagine living without it. But I'd like to see a few improvements on the next version if I did get another. (Maybe I'll eventually get another for live gigs).
Sound
Good, clean and accurate sound.
Features
Generally good. Would be better if they added a 2nd headphone jack with it's own separate volume control. I'm using a short Y-splitter cable as a cheap partial solution to connect 2 sets of headphones.
Quality
Solid. (Sometimes I have to turn it on & off a few times to get it to establish a good connection with the computer - don't know if that's a quality issue or not, maybe the on switch or the firewire jack, or maybe it's some other reason?)
Value
The combination of hardware & software you get is great (go for the factory bundle, I'm glad I did).
Manufacturer Support
Turns out there was a bad ribbon cable inside the product. Support figured it out over the phone & mailed out a new one right away. It was pretty easy to open the case & install myself. They've also been fairly good helping out with software questions during the first year, but you can't ask too many or too detailed questions. For full-on software support you probably have to buy one of Digi's HD systems for the big bucks.
The Wow Factor
Great from a practical & functional point of view, but aesthetically it could be better. The color, design, and styling are kind of drab, but I don't care much. The knobs could use readable numbers and a position marker - what's up with this, AND a better tactical response and (on my wish list) having a lighted dial/knob "notch position" would be good. Their high end boards have that and even the cheap Behringer v-amp now has these so they can't be too costly to add. Now it's hard to know exactly where you had something set to be consistent from session to session if you need to switch things around.

"don't be fooled"

Overall: 1.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
this thing has caused me so much stress. i should have returned it when i had the chance. what a piece of..You will have to restart your computer everytime you turn it on.
Sound
sounds great when the software actually launches with no problems.
Features
tons of ins and outs.
Ease of Use
very, very simple to use.
Quality
sound quality is a dream. but it doesn't really work.
Value
don't waste your money. if you plan on recording live instruments this is not the answer. usually it only records less than a minute before it overloads your computer's buffer. then it just stops recording and there went your best track. and that's is you can get it to turn on. no my computer is not weak.
Manufacturer Support
support is good, but you can't fix what's not broke. it has some major bugs that were never worked out before release.
The Wow Factor
you can have mine if you want it.

"One Big Let Down"

Overall: 1.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
I took it back, if it doesn't work I can't use it.
Sound
It won't play a single mono track without a buffer error.
Features
Extra software plug ins but I can't use them if it doesn't work!
Quality
The authorization code was wrong, I had to wait four days before I could get digidesign to answer the phone.
Value
Kinda pricey
Manufacturer Support
They tried to help, but it didn't work.
