Crate GT212 Guitar Amp Customer Review

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Will keep indefinitely! Good for practice or gig. If it was lost or stolen, I would buy another. Sound perfect for country, rock or metal. Do your self a favor and get this amp! Great tone for a solid state amp! I own a Mesa Stiletto Trident and this amp has equal to or better tone, especially in the clean setting.
Sound
Clean to Mean!!!!!!!!!! Played a BC Rich Dark Arts Warlock through this puppy and the tone was SMOKIN' Reverb not very good.
Features
Includes foot switch to change between channels and to operate Reverb. Instructions for hook-up and use less than adequate.
Ease of Use
Easy to use unless you've never operated an amp before. Manuel great except for foot switch use.
Quality
Built tough and looks great! Should hold up to pretty much anything. parts and assembly look good, also.
Value
Worth every dime I paid for it.
Manufacturer Support
Never used.
The Wow Factor
Sleek.

This will be my sons amp when i'm done with it!
Sound
I have went through a Behringer V-ampire, a Behringer V-tone 212 and this blows them away!!!! This thing will make your ears bleed. Make sure you buy a wha pedal (cry baby not hell babe) and life will be good.
Features
1 crisp clean channel, 1 raspy rythyn channel and 1 "slap yo momma in the face" solo channel, what more do you need? I had 2 with all of the effects and they suck!
Ease of Use
It's so easy a caveman could do it.
Quality
Like a tank!
Value
You cannot beat it, I tried.

Don't know and hope to never find out.

"This is a large step up from your average amplifier."

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars

Overalll, this amp is a great buy. I am very pleased with the quality, sound, and features. And it is simply put, worth your money.
Sound
The sound of this amp is outstanding. It is unbeatable for the price and I am very pleased with my purchase. There isn't any buzzing when I am not playing and the Solo channel is very cool.
Features
The features that come with this amp are acceptable. Three channels; with all of which you can easily find a good sound. The footswitch was a nice bonus and you can even control the reverb with it.
Ease of Use
I plugged it in, and played. Chances are if you are buying this amp, you'll pretty much understand how to use it.
Quality
Good quality amp. It's very hefty, coming it at around 50 pounds. Its sturdy, stable and makes for a nice seat. The knobs don't feel cheap and the handle does it's job.
Value
Don't waste your time with the upper scale, name brand amps. Sure they sound great. But give this one a chance, because it does the job and you could buy a few different accesories with the money you save by purchasing this one.
Manufacturer Support
I wouldn't know because it hasn't been neccesary for use, yet. But it does come with a 2 Year warrenty on both speakers and a 5 year warrenty on all electronics. Both of which are free of charge.
The Wow Factor
This has a basic amp design. There really isn't much of anything that pops out and grabs you. But, I really don't care how my amp looks. Isn't the guitar supposed to display your personality?

This will be my kids first amp when I stop playing it.
Sound
You could do alot worse for $200. This amp has plenty of volume and distortions are good IF you use the EQ!! Clean is nice and punchy and warm. Oh yeah...if you turn it to 10 - it won't sound nice. So don't turn it to 10, OK? ;-)
Features
Features are pretty standard. I specifically didn't want the onboard DSP which impactss the amp's overall tone. Glad I caught this one before they ran out. GTs are no longer being produced. I have a gt65 too.
Ease of Use
Very Easy. Just turn the EQ until it sounds good. DON'T crank thr trebles too high though - ouch!
Quality
You know, this amp is a wonder of minimalism and utility. Yeah, I know it doesn't have audiophile components and a cabinet made from rare rainforest woods. But, darnit - it still sounds pretty good. Crates are known for being robust - not breaking down.
Value
Huge value for me.
Manufacturer Support
Pretty good.
The Wow Factor
It is plain black - nothing that would turn heads down the street or anything.

great great great. Is awesome for the price. works amazing with efffects pedals. would upgrade speakers or get an extension cab if gigging with. TOO MUCH POWERRRR!!!! cant turn up past 6 without sound breaking up on speakers. OH well.... its stilla great amp. at 5, the volume is PLENTY GIGGABLE. trust me.
Sound
GREAT distortion. more than i expected. sound is awesome at high levels. clean is typical SS sound, but SOMETIMEs when u have settings set perfectly its sounds close to TUBE. to get good bluesy tone i turn voluume nob down on guitar and use rythm or lead channels and it sounds AMAZING. clean works flawlessly with effets pedal and doesnt color tone of pedal at all. only downside, i play C tuning sometimes and the speakers somewhat muffle the low end. recoomend for fellow black/death metal players: get extension cab or swap speakers. (get vintage 30s or ....hell, greenbacks)
Features
good footswitch. everything is already mentioned...Oh yeah, with this amp ur able to add casters for easy manuverability. the thing is, i have no clue where to get casters that fit into this amo.
Quality
this seems the only area of lacking. for the price what can u expect? the right speaker is cracking up although it is kinda my fault because i played a bass through it. NEVER play bass guitar through a guitar amp. ruins speakers, even celestions. anyways, the material is cheap but all that matters is the sound right? the amp is still built very strong.
Value
compared to its other competitor 212's (fender FM/ Behringer V-tone/hughes and ketner WARP7/ Ibanez Toneblaster) this one has the most features and sounds for the price.

Absolutely best bang for the buck amp out there. Crate amps are great amps at great price, Why buy Marshall and buy the name and the pretty inscription on the cab?
Sound
Very impressive clean sounds, and even better distortion sounds. I thought about buying a Carvin Tube Half Stack but I am glad i saved 750 buks and still have a sweet amp.
Features
Real 3 channel operation, perfect for a crisp clean, a dirty crunch, and a full on power lead with no level fluctuation unlike some amps with 2 way channels and such.
Quality
Sturdy as can be, could throw it off a building and be good to go. Basic black is all ya need but still sexy and sleak.
Value
120 Watts, True 3 channel, rediculous power, and perfect sound. Perfection!
Manufacturer Support

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars

I intend on using this as my band practice amp.As well as my small gig and mic'd venue amp!!!
Sound
Sounds good when cranked and defantly small gig or practice worthy!!! the only problem is it doesn't have a low volume... either semi-loud or LOUD!!!
Features
Reverb sounds great, rhythm lacks a tiny bit, but solo rawks my socks!!! Foot pedal is a plus and easy to use!!! CD in is nice as well. Noticed that it can be easily disassembled to make a custom head only cab for it :)
Ease of Use
You can pretty much make sounds come outa this thing... form clean to black metal it does it!!!
Quality
Looks pretty well built, minus the cheesy on/off switch. the amp as whole an awesome deal for under $400!!! Can easily power a 4x12 cab no problem!!!
Value
The Fender FM212R and this amp both seem like a good deal... this was coice between the 2.
The Wow Factor
Looks good to me :)

GREAT AMP! bottom line, you need to go out and buy one!
Sound
This thing is the best. I owned a boss multi-effects pedal but after buying this, I am selling that. the clean is alright, and then rhythm will work, but the solo..oh man!! no need for a pedal ever agan!
Features
Speaker out, RCA inputs in the front, and footswitch with reverb switch, what else could you ask for??
Quality
Give it a 10 right now, because I just bought it today. Not enough time to see how it will stand at a gig or practice, or really loud for a long time, but it looks good, and is built great!!
Value
I got a deal on this thing, but It is so worth the normal selling price, such a great amp. If you havent heard one, get somewhere and hear it, you'll want one!
Manufacturer Support
Haven't dealed with it yet, and hopefully won't!

"Best for the buck"

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Sure this amp cant compare to a Mesa Boogie, Fender or Marshall, but I love it so much. If it were stolen I would definitely buy another one. I used to think negatively about crate but now I respect them so much more, this amp has great tone, volume, and features. Sure there aren't effects, but with the money you save, you can get a couple pedals if you really want them.
Sound
The settings on this amp are pretty good. The clean does the job when I need it, however I don't use it a lot. The rhythm setting gives that nice classic rock sound and it has great distortion. The solo rhythm is sickk. The shape knob is awesome since you can scoop your mids and such, going from sweet solo sounds to heavy chunky metal distortion. I wouldn't buy a distortion pedal as this amp I believe gets the job done. Plus its loud as hell, still haven't turned it up all the way, even at gigs. This is no Marshall but it doesn't matter. I love the tone and the sound from this.
Features
The footswitch is amazing. It originally attracted me to buy one, and I have to say its awesome. Its so easy switching between settings. I also like the cd input, used it once or twice and its handy for practicing.
Ease of Use
Very easy to modify the sounds and to get different tones, especially on the solo channel.
Quality
This thing is solid as a rock. Nothings broken yet and Ive had it for about half a year. For some reason something rattles when you move the amp around a lot, but i don't know what it is. It doesn't really bother me that much though.
Value
You may be thinking, "eh 120 amp for under 200 bucks? and its crate? no way" I thought the same. But this baby can do it all. Its the best for the buck. Get it, you'll be as happy as I am.
Manufacturer Support
Never had to call them because nothing ever happened
The Wow Factor
The price and the foot switch made me go for this amp.

"OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
I will always have this amp. It is exellent in every way. I think if Crate keeps making these then there will be a new word to describe sound. I love this amp more than anything!!!!
Sound
When it comes to sound, this am rules all. I play heavy/death metal music with my band and the distortion you can get on this baby's 3rd channel is unbelivable! This is a loud amp!!! The reason I bought his amp was because that my drummer was playing to loud. But now that I have the good old 120 watts, he cant even hear himself play!!!
Features
The features with is amp are great. The channel pedal that comes with the amp is great for live performances and what not. There is nothing I would want more than whatalready comes with this amp.
Quality
For the price, this product is exellent. It is 100% durabal. I am very happy with what I have and I trust this amp and the people who make them.
Value
This amp is worth every penny! For a 120 watt RMS combo amp, I have never seen a better deal. Every single thing about this amp is worth the price.

Overall: 4 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Verified Customer zZounds has verified that this reviewer made a purchase from us.
I expect not too have any problems with this amp. If I do, hopefully it won't be for a long time.
Sound
I give it an 8 because no amp has the perfect sound, but this one is close to it. It has nice vintage sounding distortion which fits in with the music I play(Indie/Post-Hardcore). The clean channel has a nice warm tone to it, so it's all good.
Features
The best feature on this amp is the solo channel, which is used to add heavier distortion if needed from your original sound. It also has reverb, but I never use that anyways. Your better off buying effect pedals like I do.
Quality
Well...I was able to stand on the amp and nothing happened, so it's sturdy. I didn't experience any problems with it yet, so I guess it has good quality.
Value
Yes it's definately worth the price, usually a 120 watt amp with a good quality sound would range from 450 to 600$.
Manufacturer Support
They shiped me the amp in 2 days without shipping costs, so yea im happy with the support.

This amp has served me during rehearsal, live gigs, and most definetly for recordings.I play all styles and this amp lets me dial in the right tone. For the price by far it is the greatest value and tone.I was going to buy a Marshall amp next but I was so impressed with Crate amps, that my next amp is going to be their 100/50 watt tube amp priced so affordable. That so called Marshall sound is so overated.

"I LOVE CRATE!! now i do anyway, thanks to this amp."

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Awesome sound, great appeal, excellent features, simplicity and a price that'l make your jaw drop. Don't waste your money, folks. Get a Crate.
Sound
Oh my gosh... it says "CREATE YOUR OWN SOUND" on the box. They're not joking. I can get any sound i need out of this bad boy and i LOVE IT. The solo channel is saturated with a thick, beasty distortion that is PERFECT for metal. The rhythm channel is raspy and trashy and sounds great with blues and pop punk (my personal preference. set the gain to 9, low to 10, med to 7 and high to 4 and it sounds awesome). and the clean channel is super crisp and clear. chances are you might spend a little bit of time fiddling with the EQ to find ur perfect tone (i did), but once you do you won't want to turn it off.
Features
I'm glad crate didn't throw in too many things to make it complicated. It doesn't settle for the bare minimum, or make the price jacked up with a bunch of features you don't need. Everything is perfect; just like you want them.
Ease of Use
Maybe it's because i had a behringer before this (and i've found that their equalizers are a little wierd) so it took me a while to figure this one out. But the manual has a little page with equalizer suggestions that will give your amp different sounds. Once i tried those out, I got the hang of it and it was smooth sailing.
Quality
Crate rhymes with great! Seriously this thing is tough. I can just feel that i could be taking this thing on tour for years and it woulds stand up. I don't want to put it throught too much abuse though. I've only had it for a weekend and it's already my baby.
Value
DO NOT PASS THIS UP!! I REPEAT: DO NOT PASS THIS UP!! i was about to get a behringer but when i saw this WHOA!! u can't beat the price. forget the marshall forget the fender, u'l save hundreds with using this. DON'T WAIT!!
Manufacturer Support
Has plenty of phone numbers and stuff, but i doubt i'll ever need it. Plus, it has a 5 year warrantee.
The Wow Factor
I LOVE IT. If this amp was a woman, she'd be beautiful. But seriously folks, this thing looks like an amp should. It looks ready to rock. It looks like it wants to own the stage. And it will.

If ur a metal player this is the amp to get when it comes to sound, the reverb is sexy and when u turn the shape all the way up on lead slection u get a sick, thrash metal kinda roar that screams through the amp...its nice!
Features
Like i said the reverb kicks ass and the shape selection on the lead is a great way to make ur sound more solid and the footswitch is so convienient and perfect, but they could pump alittle more effects in this baby
Ease of Use

I like it better than the fender. Enough Power for practice and sml gig, ( more than enough ). Excelent price. Rugged. Free footswitch. Portable. Tone and sound on al the channels rock for this combo. Bottom line. If your in a band and don't got too much dough to spend, and need the power but still want great sound, or distorion, tone? you have it all. 350$. Go to a local music shop and check it out. Worth every cent in my opinion.
Sound
Clean is great, high and low, Crunch sounds very real and and has good tone, And solo channel wich is the one I use most has enough distortion you wouldn't wan't a "metal petal" . Distortion is tight too.
Features
Comes with free 3 channel footswitch, very nice.
Quality
Seems very rugged, and dependable. 50 lbs, but it is 2 12"'s so it's not too heavy to move. Footswitch is made well also.
Value
350$ local music shop. 120watts, excelent tone, portability. Yes, buy it. I like it better than the fender.

Crate GT212 Guitar Amp Customer Review

Overall: 3.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
I bought this because fender fm212r was not in stock. I'd rather get that than this because of its poor distortions. Otherwise, this is a quality amp. and can shatter your windows if you are not careful with the volumes.
Sound
clean channel sounds really clean and pure. distortions... personally, I don't like them. I use old boss GT3 but this is a whole lot better. reverb is ok, but if you turn the knob more than half, it will sound like chorus, and the sound will not be so clean. Very LOUD!!! I tried turning the volume to about half the way, and I almost lost my hearing. good bass and also highes too the equalizer is really dynamic. turn the knob a little and it will change the sound dramatically.
Quality
this amp is bigger than what I thought. almost size of 27' TV. it's kind of heavy too. about 50 lbs. looks strong... I have literally hammered on old crate GT30, and it didn't break easily. and I bet this will do the same.

This review has been selected by our experts as particularly helpful.
Amazing
Sound
very good Clean Tones if you know what you are doing and set the controls to a good combination....distortion sounds really good but not as good as if you buy an actual Distortion Pedal (Metal Master By Digitech and the Metal Zone by Boss are much better)Reverb is OK can be better but good for amp reverb
Features
comes with foot switch and 3 good channels, rythm, solo, and Clean.
Quality
lasts a long time but after a while the outer material begins peeling. Nothing big though
Value
120Watts, 2x12 speakers, footswitch to 3 awesome channels. you cannot beat the value
The Wow Factor
looks cool and sounds good...personal i dont know any one who is stupid to buy an amp based on looks...if you want a half stack 2 x 12 extension cab makes an awesome one ( i suggest Line 6 or Peavey speakers) i have this crate with a Peavey 2x12 beneath it and i love it to death
