There is no doubt I will supplement my 4041's with something else by AT ...

I have used the AT 3031's in the past, even for vocals... but the 4041's are the ideal solution for acoustic music... you want your acoustic guitar or mandolin to sound clean, clear and keep the purity of the instrument... the 4041 gives you that and more

The only thing it came with was the stand adapter and wind screen...

as to the quality? If sound is any indication of the quality, it can't be beat. I've used Audio Technica for several years and it's the best bang for the buck out there anywhere
