"ok but......."

Overall: 2.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Sound
sound is reasonably clean, pots etc all work ok. a bit a latency when the gain is high, but can be overcome if youre recording with it. the eq does what it should, and the mic preamps serve adequately to take the metalic edge of most dynamic mics. the effects are ok, if samey. the 100 variations could be covered by 10 effects, and theres no facility to edit. also theres a huge ammount of noise introduced when you up the effects level. even using an cheapo eternal effects unit connected with cheapo patch cables introduces less noise. the effects unit basically quit on me upon the 5th time I switched it on....
Features
ok, as mentioned I think the effects are nice but samey, and introduce a huge ammount of noise into the setup
Ease of Use
very intuative, plug in and play
Quality
fx quit on 5th use, overheats very easily. other than that seems ok
Value
reasonable desk if sold for 30e less with no fx bar a simple reverb on each channel
Manufacturer Support
no opinion, I bought this online and reckoned the hassle of sending it back would be more than the fx were worth to me.
The Wow Factor
wouldnt buy alesis again. augmented with a decent reverb pedal and a few effects on an old sampler I own it will serve its purpose, but I wouldnt recomend it

"Alesis once again delivers less than promised"

Overall: 0.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
I've since replaced this with dedicated mic preamps and no longer use FX in recording.
Sound
I do not rate the sound quality very highly. It injects a significant amount of harmonic distortion at low gain levels--making it totally unsuited as a mic preamp for recording. If one attempts to use the onboard effects, the problem is magnified--the FX send/return acts mainly to overdrive the already overdriven gain stage. I have no idea how it would sound in a live setting--I didn't purchase it for that purpose.
Features
If this worked as promised, the FX would be a great feature. Since the FX do not deliver as promised, The unit might be better off without the added FX--but then all this would be would be a clone of a Behringer UB802--which has better mic preamps at a lower cost. The only way this is better than a Behringer is at least Alesis designed this with an on/off switch.
Ease of Use
After owning this for four years, I have yet to get anything approximating a good sound out of it.
Quality
While the casing appears to be of sturdy construction and should hold up well, if the unit will not deliver good sound, which this doesn't, the casing is worthless. As I've noted in reviewing other Alesis products, a petrified dinosaur dropping encased in crystal is still a POS.
Value
This is not a good value. If one wants FX, one would be better off to spend the extra $$ for dedicated FX. If one wants a mic preamp--better to spend the money for dedicated preamps. Purchasing this in the hopes of more bang for the buck is a waste of money--you won't have good FX and you won't have good pre-amps.
Manufacturer Support
This is where Alesis gets the lowest mark possible. Customer support is non-existent. The email support crew do not respond within a reasonable time limit, which I believe should be 48 hours or less. When they do respond, they are rude and sarcastic. When I posted negative reviews on other products--such as their worthless GuitarFX stompbox, I was threatened with legal action for defaming their products. They never did help me resolve any problems.
The Wow Factor
Not a practical addition to my set-up. It was a waste of money.
