TASCAM's DR-680 brings multi-channel portable recording within reach of any musician for polished live, location and surround recordings. Up to eight tracks can be recorded to solid-state SD card media at 96kHz/24-bit Broadcast WAV quality. Six mic inputs provide phantom power and 60dB of gain for great-sounding recordings with your condenser microphones. Record the six microphones along with a digital S/PDIF source for 8 track recording. Each mic input has a selectable low cut filter and analog limiter for optimal sound.

In addition to WAV recording up to 96kHz, the DR-680 captures stereo audio at 192kHz/24-bit for audiophile-quality masters. The DR-680 records up to four channels of MP3 audio for web-ready recordings. Two of the recorders can be connected with a cascade cable for up to 14-track recording on battery power.

Multi-channel portable recording has never been as simple or affordable as the TASCAM DR-680.

I've been in this business for over 30 years and have been around quite a bit of film, video, and audio production equipment in my time.I did a lot of research before purchasing the DR-680 from zZounds and in my opinion it represents the best of performance and best value in its' class!My main requirement for the type of work that I do is to have clean preamps. I spent a lot of time running tets against all kinds of equipment in the under $2000 price range and I couldn't find a unit that actually sounded better than the DR-680.With 4 balanced XLRs, 2 balanced TRS inputs, that's more than I need for short films and corporate projects that we do.I don't use the outputs much, but there are plenty of them too.And you get an internal mixer, which is quite useful!I have recorded nature FX with this unit, and the only way that I could get cleaner audio would be to spend WAY more $$.People have complained about it's ergonomics, but all manufacturers have some quirks with placement of controls and features. The biggest short-cumming would have to be that there is only one control knob for the levels. Audio engineers use to riding the levels will have some gymnastics to do, but there is a limiter on each channel so you can avoid clipping in harsh environments. On my productions, the lighting and audio are well planned in advance and I don't have any issues with having to ride the levels myself, not that it isn't a legitimate concern, just not for my type of work.So I am ecstatic with my… read more purchase, and I got the best price, delivery and service from zZounds, which is why I purchased it from them.And No, I don't work for zZounds or have any financial affiliation with them in any way... just a happy customer.Thanks!
