Revolutionary Steinberger Bass Design

There was nothing like Ned Steinberger’s guitars and basses when they were first introduced in 1979. Today, with their lightweight and headless design, Steinberger basses are still bold, modern instruments that offer players both a smooth tonal response and rock solid intonation at any position on the neck.

The Steinberger XT-25 "Quilt Top" Standard 5-string Bass Outfit features the revolutionary Steinberger Bass design with a 5th string tuned to Low B, a Poplar body, and a 3-piece Hard Maple neck that together resonate as a single piece of wood. For traveling musicians, the XT-25 is the Ultimate Travel Bass. At 38.5” long and only 8.2lbs, its ergonomic design makes it easy to take anywhere including overhead airline compartments. And thanks to its headless construction and 3-piece Hard Maple neck, the XT-25 isn’t as sensitive to temperature changes, which makes it virtually indestructible! The neck has a comfortable 1960's style read more SlimTaper-D profile with a basswood composite fingerboard, 24 medium jumbo frets, a 34” scale length, and a 14” radius. A folding leg rest sits compactly on the lower bout of the body. A deluxe padded gigbag is included. An optional hard case is also available.

The Patented 40:1 Ratio Direct-Pull tuning system and patented DoubleBall Bass Bridge with steel saddle provide exceptional stability and sustain. Ordered the quilt top XT-25 wine red back in March. The delivery date kept getting pushed back. No fault of zZounds, but I was getting pretty frustrated. Then suddenly I received the notification that it had shipped. 5 days later I had it. I had read the limited reviews, some good, some not. Some saying there were blemishes in the finish and other problems. So I unpacked it carefully and looked it over literally with a magnifying glass. Don't know about others, but mine is FLAWLESS ! and BEAUTIFUL ! Pictures do not do it justice. Frets and intonation are great. The wood used on the fretboard is very hard and very pretty as well. Light and compact, when I whipped it out to show my bandmates their jaws literally dropped ! It was funny to see. My only critique, the tuners were/are stiff and hard to turn. I put a few drops of liquid wrench on them and worked them in/out a few times. Better. But still hard to tune exactly. It will take me some time to adjust the tone to what I want. Trial and error. I have a 4 string Spirit and a hard case for same. The XT-25 does not fit into this case. Too wide. The gig bag it comes with is adequate. I'm not a gig bag guy. Will have to get a hard case (when they're available). Bottom line, I love this bass ! for under $500 you are getting a unique instrument. I'm sure the standard model at $50 less is just as good. BUY IT !
