Kala U-BASS2 Bass (with Gig Bag)

No longer available at zZounds
Ideal for both stage and studio, the Kala U-BASS2 features full bass sound and a passive pickup system in a small body-size.

Kala has been turning upright bass literally on its side with the 20 inch scale U.BASS which bassist Dave Pomeroy has dubbed portable and powerful. The U.BASS 2 provides an affordable alternative to the original U.BASS. Features proprietary Polyurethane Strings, a passive pickup system with 4 individual piezo elements, Rosewood fingerboard and bridge, and solid mahogany neck. Plus the U.BASS 2 sports a solid spruce top and mahogany back and sides.

The compact size makes the U.BASS 2 extremely portable and able to meet all carry-on standards. Its deep bass tone makes the U.BASS 2 ideal for live and studio applications. Noted U.BASS users include Jim Mayer (Jimmy Buffet), Bakithi Kumalo (Paul Simon) and Hutch Hutchinson (Bonnie Raitt). Because of its size and ease of playing, teachers and students all over are discovering that the U.BASS makes an excellent bass for burgeoning bassists.

Comes equipped with a heavily padded gig bag.

I will most likely be returning it.
Sound
Great Sound once you can get the strings to STAY in tune. Big problem is that the intonation is terrible- Mine is totally off key by the time I get to the third fret. Produces a great sound through any amp that I used and it's fun to play. I'm going to give it another week to see if the strings stretch out. But for $400.00 + it ends up being an very expensive Toy and if I can't get the intonation under control - it will be returned.
Features
No Features.
Ease of Use
Easy to use once you get used to the short scale.
Quality
Nice looking, but not sure where my problem originates. So lets call it factory control.
Value
It's fun to play and has a grat sound, but over priced for what it is. Would feel better about the price if the intonaton was set correctly ( There is no way to adjust it ).
Manufacturer Support
Haven't contacted the company about a return, but they have solid reputation, so Im not worred.
The Wow Factor
Wouldn't consider it to have sex appeal, but it is a good conversation piece.
