What's special about this item?

Feature: What it does:
Mahogany body with poplar burl top Rich and resonant tone
Mono-Rail IV bridge Allows strings to vibrate fully, no interference
Nordstrand Big Single pickups Crisp and clear bass tone
Gold hardware Enhances beauty of hardware complement

The Ibanez Premium SR2600E's mahogany body combined with an elegant poplar burl top creates a solid, well-balanced tone. The 5-piece Atlas neck consists of alternating layers of Panga Panga/Maple/Paduak/Purpleheart/Walnut, providing a striking visual detail, not to mention neck stability for years to come.

Professional players and gear reviewers alike have been singing the praises of the SR Premium series since its introduction. Crafted by the Ibanez Premium luthiers, the SR2600E series share many of the high-end appointments of the much-respected Prestige line. This extraordinary attention to detail manifests itself in features like super-smooth hand-crimped frets, and the Ibanez Mono-Rail bridge-- an ingeniously designed unit that kills off unwanted sympathetic vibrations while isolating and optimizing favorable string harmonics.

In spite of this impressive hit list of exotic materials, this Premium bass stays true to the original SR concept: being surprisingly light in weight--a noticeable contrast to the instrument's thick sonic character. That big, bold, tonal personality is due largely to a pair of Nordstrand Big Single pickups--the kind well acquainted with boutique instruments. No matter what musical texture is desired, the Ibanez Custom 3-Band EQ, with EQ bypass and mid-frequency switch, will get there fast.

I purchased this bass based on reviews I read and Ibanez specifically bragging about the attention to detail and care they put into these Premium instruments. When I got it I was impressed that all adjustments to to spec.I found the action a bit higher than I like but no biggie it also come with an awesome adjustment tool. This instrument is beautiful and the neck plays like butter (after I lowered he action) my two complaints is one the pickups seem a bit dull compared to the Barts in other Ibanez basses. I will play with the heights and see if I can’t live the them up a bit. Also being single coil they are useless when not used together. That rules out any P-Bass emulations or heavy Jaco sounds. The main issue I have is the lower edge of the frets from the 12th fret up has a sharp edge. My fanned fret Ibanez has much better fret dressing than this one and it’s not a premium model. I am actually debating whether to contact Ibanez about the fret issue since they do brag about it and all. I just received this bass last night and I don’t want to hate it so I will tweak it a bit more and see what I get.
