The HyDrive Design

HyDrive speakers feature carefully crafted paper/aluminum hybrid cone drivers. The hybrid makeup delivers an exceptional blend of warmth and attack that can't be attained by traditional all-paper bass speakers. And specific to the HD508, packing four 8-Inch HyDrive speakers into a single cabinet creates a combined cone area that is larger, as well as able to reproduce a wider audio range, than that of a single 15-Inch speaker.

Power and Portability

Beyond the impeccable tone of the HyDrive speakers, the HD508 offers tremendous power in a highly-portable design. Its lightweight Class D amplifier produces an earth shaking 500 watts of power capable of filling any rehearsal space, recording studio or performance venue. And weighing just 49 pounds in all, the HD508 can be easily transported via its molded strap carry handle, metal side carry handles or removable casters.

Wow, just wow... where has this amp been all my life!? I bought this as a "practice" amp for my bedroom but wanted to have the ability to use it during jamming and live performance; this amp is surprisingly compact, weighs 49 lbs but it has side handles making it pretty easy to move around. I have a Warwick Thumb 5-string and it sounds SO GOOD through this amp and this amp has no trouble with the low-B string. Having the mid-range contour is a "must-have" for me - I like the "Jaco" sound (it's actually closer to Michael Manring's tone on Thonk) and I can just dial it in. I also have (amongst others) a Martin BC-16e acoustic/electric bass (4 string) and I was blown away - in my experience most amps make an acoustic bass (when plugged in) sound like a regular electric bass... they seem to loose the "acoustic" quality... this amp makes it sound like an acoustic bass with a ton of volume, just a growling, organic, woody sound. And the volume... I can't turn it much past 1 when I am playing along with music in the bedroom, I mean you have 500 watts on tap so yeah, it's got plenty of power. I LOVE THIS AMP!!! Great job Hartke!!
